Donald Ray Worsham, Sr.

Funeral services for Donald Ray Worsham, Sr., 73, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Freddie Gillentine and Russell Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, Dec. 21, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Worsham died Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab Center.

Charles Harlan Reeves: 11-10-1924 to 12-17-2012

Charles Harlan Reeves 88, of Robinson passed away surrounded by his loving family Monday December 17, 2012. Services will be 1 PM Thursday, December 20, with a visitation from 11 am – 1 pm at Pecan Grove Funeral Home 3124 Robinson Dr., with Bishop Don Connell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

SHS wins pair against C-City

After missing the first 11 games of the 2012-13 basketball season due to an injury he suffered at the end of football season, Sweetwater’s Kaleb Hoover showed little rust in his return Tuesday night against Colorado City.
In fact, last season’s district Newcomer of the Year appears ready for the start of 4-3A action which is less than a month away. The 6-1 junior scored a team-high 19 points in leading the Mustangs to a 45-42 victory, completing a doubleheader sweep at Sweetwater’s gym.

Two ‘Stangs receive APSE hon. mention

Two Sweetwater High School football players — senior defensive lineman Tadeo Canon-Masjoan and senior linebacker Ryan Linebaugh — have received honorable mention to the Associated Press Sports Editors Class 3A all-state team released on Tuesday.
Both Canon-Masjoan and Linebaugh were named to the All-District 4-3A first team that was announced in early December.

It will be warm and windy for your Wednesday weather!
Today will be mostly sunny with a high near 77, with southwest winds at 15 to 25 mph and increasing up around 25 to 35 mph in the afternoon. Gusts could top out at 45 mph, and expect widespread blowing dust after 2 p.m.
Expect the widespread blowing dust to continue through 7 p.m. tonight, but it will still be windy and we'll be seeing a cool-down. The low will be around 27 with mostly clear skies, and western winds around 25 to 30 mph. After midnight, the winds will decrease to 20 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

BCMRC ready to respond through NCUW donations

This year's campaign for the Nolan County United Way (NCUW) is "Give Where You Live", which focuses on serving local entities.
Wendy Smartt is the group's Executive Director, and she leads a board of volunteers from the community who hope to impact the community through a caring power. The organization is run solely on pledges.
To donate to the Nolan County United Way, a one-time donation can be given by a payroll deduction or a quarterly basis. These donations allow the NCUW to reach thousands within the county by supporting nine agencies.

Christmas Concert at the Municipal Auditorium

The Sweetwater Municipal Band will once again entertain a crowd at the Municipal Auditorium with their annual Christmas concert Thursday, Dec. 20 at 7:30 p.m.
Enjoy classic and contemporary Christmas tunes from an experienced group of musicians, along with a new vocalist. Local singer Rebekah Chrismer will perform with the band for the first time for their Christmas concert, and Larissa Place, who sang a few tunes with the band last year, will sing a few with them this year as well.

Texas National Bank Establishes “Good Grades Pay” Award

In an effort to motivate Sweetwater High School students to apply themselves and earn high grades, Texas National Bank has established an award they call “Good Grades Pay.” The concept is simple, make the A Honor Roll for a six week period and have your name entered into a drawing to win $50. The pool of names is separated by grade so that one A Honor Roll student from each grade will win $50 for a total give away of $200 every six weeks.

City meeting includes various reports

Sweetwater City Manager Eddie Brown gave his report during the December meeting of the City Commission, outlining a variety of issues and upcoming projects.
Due in part to available capital improvement funds, planning is underway for work to be done at the Sweetwater Police Station. A contract was recently signed by the city with Wiginton Hooker Jeffry Architects, P.C.

The SPD received 71, 911 calls.
