Texas Farmers Union (TFU) President Wes Sims stated that the budget proposal recently released by the leadership of the U.S. House of Representatives and Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan, R-WI is unfair and would be very harmful to the economy of rural Texas.
"Our farmers, ranchers and rural communities have already suffered a disproportionate share of cuts from the farm bill extension and sequester. It will also turn the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) into block grants for states," said Sims.
Discussions were held on Tuesday's meeting of the Sweetwater City Commission on the project taking place at the intersection of Lamar Street and State Highway 70, near Bradford Lane.
Approval was given on two construction contract change orders for the utility relocation project by the commissioners. John Voller, the city engineer with Enprotec/Hibbs and Todd, made the presentation at the meeting.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 49 calls for service, issued no citations and made three arrests on Mar. 13, 2013.
The SPD received 30, 911 calls.

Debra Bailey, 56, of Sweetwater, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Nolan Nursing and Rehab.
She will be cremated. No services are planned.

Kirstin Smith, the Asst. Marketing/Admin. Director, stated that in a little over a month, Senior Interview Day will be conducted on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24. Volunteers are needed to interview the students, and board members can either take part themselves or send a representative from their business to attend.

With the city election coming up on Saturday, May 11, approval was given at Tuesday's Sweetwater City Commission meeting for the appointment of election judges and alternate judges.
They will be Kevin Shipp and Jim Kelley (Precinct 1), Ada Belle Clark and Rhea Hendrix (Precinct 2), Barbara Baker and Chris Stephens (Precinct 3) and Ann McCarthy and Olga Balderas (Precinct 4).
