A No Short Cuts Volleyball Camp for students entering grades 7-8 will be held Wednesday, July 6, at the Sweetwater High School gym. The camp will be from 9 a.m. to noon and from 1-4 p.m. Cost is $50. This is an all-skills camp that will emphasize the six individual skills as well as applying those skills in group and team play. The primary focus is to improve each player's individual skills during the off-season. The areas of concern that will be addressed are ball control, movement, attacking and blocking. All campers will receive a T-shirt.

According to the Texas Forest Service, right at 500 acres were burned in a fire near Lake Trammell over the weekend. According to Nolan County Sheriff David Warren, the fire began on County Road 145 and was caused by a burning deer carcass. Ralph Lynch received a citation for the illegal burning during a burn ban.
In light of the Lake Trammell fire on Friday, June 10, some decisions were made by the Nolan County Commissioners at its regular meeting on Monday morning, June 13, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
A major approval was made banning the sale and use of fireworks due to the extremely dry weather conditions. Audience input was offered at the beginning of the discussion, with most voicing their agreement in the ban.
The annual Flag Day retirement ceremony at the Sweetwater Elks Lodge has been postponed due to the Nolan County burn ban and will be rescheduled when the burn ban is lifted.
Sweetwater Outreach Week was held June 9-11, 2011, and many local youth from local churches helped in efforts to assist local homeowners.
SOW is designed to help homeowners have pride in the house, help members to learn the blessings of service, and to give the Sweetwater community a renewed sense of faith in their fellow neighbors.
SOW selects several homes in the Sweetwater area that are in need of a “face lift†and then sends out a team of volunteers to scrape, paint and do various forms of yard work, all free of charge. They provide the paint, equipment and workers.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 109 calls for service, issued 11 citations and made four arrests on June 11 to 12, 2011.
The SPD received 50, 911 calls.

Some eye-opening results coupled with some optimistic responses are being discovered following the SISD's "Aim For Success" abstinence education program.
The data taken from the 788 SISD students that completed and submitted the survey was compared to results from over 80,000 students nationwide who were surveyed during the 2009-10 school year through the Aim for Success initiative. The survey was broken down by gender into four age groups: 11-12 year olds, 13-14 year olds, 15-16 year olds and 17-19 year olds.
The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Membership Appreciation Luncheon on Friday, June 10, 2011, at Texas State Technical College. Many attended the event and heard several speakers including Jacque McCoy, Tom Rees, Helen Manroe, Ken Becker, Mark Mims and Bob Sagmeister.
A graveside service for Lois Darlene Pate,78, of Blackwell, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 15, 2011, at Ford Chadbourne Cemetery in Coke County, Texas with Rev. John Curry officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
Pate died Sunday, June 12, 2011, in San Angelo.
