The City of Roscoe and the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed Rockin’ S Cantina to Roscoe with a ribbon cutting ceremony.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued six citations and made two arrests on April 10, 2013.

The SPD received 23, 911 calls.

Accidents:
• 700 block of Ragland.

Calls for service:
• Theft — 200 block of NE Georgia.
• Prowler — 400 block of E. Arkansas.
• Prowler — 500 block of Hill.

Arrested by SPD:
• Jerry Espinoza, 29 — Warrants.
• Angel Diaz, 37 — Warrants.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served one civil paper and made no arrests on April 10, 2013.

SHS squads have playoff berth in their sights today

Since it began fielding UIL teams in both baseball and softball in 1996, Sweet-water High School has never qualified both for the play-offs in the same year.
The 17-year wait could be almost over.
The Mustang baseball team is tied with Wylie for first place in District 4-3A with a 5-1 record with four games remaining, and the Lady Mustang softball team trails only first-place Snyder and is 5-2 with just three games to play.

Several athletes from SW advance to area meet

Several of Sweetwater’s track athletes assured them-selves of advancing to next week’s area meet with top-four finishes at the District 4-3A track meet in Snyder that ended Thursday.

Nolan County hosting CDCAT regional meeting

Tomorrow, over 50 county and district clerks--elected individuals who keep track of the records in their area--will converge in Sweetwater for the County & District Clerks' Association of Texas (CDCAT) Region III meeting.
The meeting will be held in the District Courtroom, located on the second floor of the Nolan County Courthouse.
Pat McGowan and Patti Neill, the respective county and district clerk, are hosting the local meeting. The last time the regional meeting was held in Nolan County was sometime around the year 2000.

Candles lit at time of remembrance

The West Texas Children’s Advocacy Center (WTCAC) and High Sky Children's Ranch once again partnered to sponsor the Eighth Annual Family FunFair on Wednesday at the Nolan County Coliseum.
Many families, totaling about 400 people in attendance, enjoyed games and prizes from 27 agencies and food donated by the Sweetwater Kiwanis Club at the event.
The highlight of the event was the Time of Remembrance for child abuse victims. Local community leaders including District Attorney Ann Reed and local pastor Jeramy Thompson spoke at this event declaring April as Child Abuse Prevention Month. 

Fire consumes unoccupied home

The Sweetwater Fire Department responded to a house fire on the 500 block of Hill Street on Wednesday evening around 8:20 p.m.
The home was not occupied at the time, as the owners were fixing the home to be rented out in the future. The house is a total loss and Sweetwater Fire Marshal Richard Spradlin is investigating the cause of the blaze.

Lake Sweetwater bait shop discussed at city meeting

The Lake Sweetwater Bait Shop was a topic of discussion during Tuesday's City Commission meeting, as some action was taken on a couple of items.
Approval was given to renew the lease agreement on the bait shop with G.M. Morgan, Inc. Some changes have been proposed by the company, and as a result of the approval City Manager Eddie Brown will be able to negotiate the changes.
As the annual lease is about to expire, the proposed changes are for the lease to become a five-year agreement with an extension option. Other issues would need to be further discussed with the company and the city.

City, Taylor Electric establish agreement

An ordinance regarding Taylor Electric Cooperative was approved during Tuesday's city commission meeting.
Outlined in the ordinance was an agreement between the company and the City of Sweetwater, so that Taylor Electric can construct and maintain their lines with the necessary equipment. It also notes that the electric company can use city streets, alleys, highways and public grounds, while also establishing that the city will receive an annual payment for the usage.
