Lake Sweetwater bait shop discussed at city meeting

The Lake Sweetwater Bait Shop was a topic of discussion during Tuesday's City Commission meeting, as some action was taken on a couple of items.
Approval was given to renew the lease agreement on the bait shop with G.M. Morgan, Inc. Some changes have been proposed by the company, and as a result of the approval City Manager Eddie Brown will be able to negotiate the changes.
As the annual lease is about to expire, the proposed changes are for the lease to become a five-year agreement with an extension option. Other issues would need to be further discussed with the company and the city.

City, Taylor Electric establish agreement

An ordinance regarding Taylor Electric Cooperative was approved during Tuesday's city commission meeting.
Outlined in the ordinance was an agreement between the company and the City of Sweetwater, so that Taylor Electric can construct and maintain their lines with the necessary equipment. It also notes that the electric company can use city streets, alleys, highways and public grounds, while also establishing that the city will receive an annual payment for the usage.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued three citations and made two arrests on April 9, 2013.

The SPD received 15, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Reckless driving — 1200 block of Ragland.
• Theft — 600 block of Walnut.
• Theft — 400 block of W. Oklahoma.
• Harassment — 1100 block of Hickory.

Arrested by SPD:
• Clifton Forbes, 31 — Warrants.
• Keithunaya Evans, 35 — Theft.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had five calls for service, served seven civil papers and made two arrests on April 9, 2013.

District track ends today

Several Sweetwater ath-letes will see action today when the District 4-3A track meet concludes its two-day run in Snyder.
Deandre Gatson quali-fied for the boys area meet in Pecos by placing second in the triple jump (43-1). Advancing to the district finals scheduled today were Jonathan Browning and Gatson in the 100-meter dash, Jay Lomas and Isaiah McGee in the 200-meter dash, Kaleb Hoover in the 400-meter dash and Nick Nemir in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles.

Golfers finish at district tourneys

Sweetwater’s two golf teams failed to advance to regionals after completing their district tournaments, as the girls placed third and the boys fifth in the final standings.
In addition, Sweetwater had no individual girls or boys players who advanced to regional competition.
Sweetwater’s boys shot 343 on Tuesday for a 1,030 total during Tuesday’s final district leg at Monahans.
The girls carded a 375 on Monday during their final leg at Midland to finish with a 1,134 total for 54 holes.

Poe’s pitching silences G’wood

GREENWOOD — They haven’t been dominant lately, but Sweetwater High School’s baseball team is winning the close games — by getting clutch hits along with some great pitching.
Tuesday’s 1-0 road vic-ory at Midland Greenwood — keeping Sweetwater in a first-place tie with Wylie at 5-1 — was the Mustangs’ second straight one-run win and third in district play.

Lady ‘Stangs stay in 2nd with dominating victory

GREENWOOD — After dropping out of first place with a 10-0 loss to Snyder, Sweetwater’s softball team got back on track Tuesday by getting 17 hits and scoring 11 runs in the last two innings of a 13-3, run-rule win at Midland Greenwood.
Sweetwater (5-2) stayed a game behind Snyder, which improved to 6-1 in district with an 8-1 win over Big Spring (4-3). Sweetwater, which is closing in on a second straight playoff berth, will play host Friday to Big Spring at 5 p.m.
