The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 64 calls for service, issued nine citations and made no arrests on April 25, 2012.
The SPD received 33, 911 calls.
Calls for service:

â€˘ Theft â€” 100 block of S. Hopkins.
â€˘ Theft â€” 200 block of SE Georgia.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 11 calls for service, served no civil papers and made one arrest on April 25, 2012.

Barbara Jean Hanks, born Dec. 28, 1927, went to be with her Savior and family on April 26, 2012. She was a loving, sweet mom and devoted wife. Greeting her at the gates was her husband of 45 years, Billy Ray, who left this earth on Nov. 20, 2011. He served in the Marine Corps. Among others waiting to rejoice with her was her dad, George Edward Jocoy and mom, Fannie Elena Dooley Jocoy. Her father-in-law, WWII Veteran, Maynor Benjamin Hanks and mother-in-law, Lila Geisler Hanks, a sister and numerous cousins and friends were also waiting.
Phil Montoya, 57, was killed in a car accident in Utah on Saturday. He was a man of many interests and much intelligence, more than anything, Phil was known as a friend.
He grew up in Utah, and settled in Texas after hitchhiking through most of the Western United States. He married and had two daughters, Traci and Lauren.
Phil owned two successful tax offices and enjoyed making a living in a practical way that helped people.
After a wait of 15 years â€” plus a 1 1/2-week break since ending its regular season â€” Sweetwaterâ€™s softball team returns to the playoffs when it plays Iowa Park in a Class 3A bi-district matchup at 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
The winner of the one-game playoff in Graham will face Burleson Centennial in the area round next week. Sweetwater, which is mak-ing only its third postseas-on appearance in school history and first since 1997, comes in with a 15-11 record and finished third in District 5-3A with a 4-4 record.

Abilene Christian Universityâ€™s Elmer
Susie Kamer was recently announced as the 2011-2012 SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) Teacher of the Year for J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center.
Kamer earned a Bachelor of Music degree at Abilene Christian University. She has spent her entire teaching career with the district as a Headstart teacher for the past six years.
She has been a member of the NHSA (National Head Start Association) and the TCTA (Texas Classroom Teachers Association). Within the community, she is an active member at Lighthouse Assembly of God as the worship leader and children's church leader.
An owl fledgling was rescued on Wednesday morning after Danielle Sargeant â€”Â an employee of the Hall Law Firm in Downtown Sweetwater â€” found the owl near the Hall Law Firm in front of a glass door. Another employee called the Sweetwater Animal Hospital.
Veterinary Technician Brenda Stevens with Sweetwater Veterinary Hospital came to the rescue along with Animal Control Officer Donald Kite to take the fledgling back to the animal hospital.

Billy Joe â€śBillâ€ť Tucker, 81, of Sweetwater, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in Sweetwater. He will be cremated under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home and no further services are planned at this time.
Billy was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Sweetwater. He married Rosemary Jones on May 12, 1972, in Sweetwater. He was a Baptist. Billy owned and operated Big State Roustabout for several years. He was a member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of Suez Shrine Temple in San Angelo.
