One dog available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has one dog available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female chihuahua mix. According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.

WASP Museum to host Chamber Coffee

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold its monthly Chamber Coffee at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at the National WASP WWII Museum, located at 210 Avenger Field Road.
Sharron Davis is at the museum as the Executive Director and Carol Cain is the Museum Administrator. The museum opened in 2005 and serves as a national point of interest.

Local music students perform costume recital

A pirate, prairie girl, astronaut, bumble bee, firefly, and more performed in the Costume Recital on Sunday, Nov. 4.

Local students audition for honor choirs

Recently, Sweetwater Choir students auditioned and performed in the TMEA Sixth Grade Honor Choir and the TMEA South Zone All-Region Honor Choir. Their concert was Saturday, Nov. 3, in Clyde.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 108 calls for service, issued three citations and made 13 arrests from Nov. 2-4, 2012.

The SPD received 50, 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Attempted burglary of a building — 300 block of Oak.
• Theft — 500 block of E. Broadway.
• Accident involving injury or death — 2200 block of Lamar.

• Terroristic threat — 800 block of E. Arizona.
• Theft — Sweetwater area.
• Robbery — 1100 block of Lamar.

Lady ‘Stangs will start out at Highland

A few Nolan County girls basketball teams tip off to-day, with Sweetwater and Highland facing each other at Highland’s gym at 6:30 p.m. A JV game starting at 5 p.m. is also on tap.
Roscoe’s girls host Eula today in their season open-er, with the varsity game at 6:15 p.m. after the JV game at 5. Sweetwater’s freshman girls also host Midland Christian at 5 p.m. today.

7th grade Red 36, Monahans 0
Kiante McCoy, Andrew Melendez, Michael Green, Christopher Thompson and Isak Alvarez scored touch-downs as Sweetwater Red stayed unbeaten at 7-0.
McCoy (60 yards), Green (85 yards), Thompson (20 yards) and Alvarez (15 yards) all had touchdown runs while Melendez caught a 30-yard scoring pass from Thompson. Also, Green had a pair of PAT runs and Kobe Clark one.

The National WASP WWII Museum Board of Directors will host a celebration of the arrival of the 1940 Boeing Stearman PT-17 at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 6, 2012, at the WASP Museum on Avenger Field Road; wine, cheese and refreshments will be served.

Election Day on Tuesday

It's almost here.
Tomorrow--on Tuesday, November 6, droves of people across the city, state and nation will head to their local polling places to vote government officials into office in the general election. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
On the national front, it seems as if the race for President--between Republican candidate Mitt Romney and President Barack Obama--is a dead heat. Both candidates and their respective running mates, Paul Ryan and Vice President Joe Biden, are making their final pitches leading up to Election Night.
