Mayor Greg Wortham, SEED Executive Ken Becker, SEED Marketing Dir. Kirstin Smith, and Jeff Howard from TSTC joined more than 100 people representing cities in the Texas Midwest region in Austin on Feb. 5th participating in âTexas Midwest Day at the Capitolâ. Representatives for the Sweetwater Rattlesnake Roundup were at the Capitol promoting the annual event and were able to take time to join the TMCN group for photos.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 150 calls for service, issued nine citations and made 10 arrests from Feb. 15-18, 2013.
The SPD received 60, 911 calls.

Funeral services for Wynona SoRelle Pickett, 86, of Sweetwater, will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Mike Crowley officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, 2013, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Pickett died Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, in Sweetwater.

Highland basketball fans will get a double treat today as both of its teams have Class 1A, Division II playoff games that will be held at Ballinger High School.
Highlandâs girls begin the doubleheader by taking on Water Valley at 6:30 p.m. in a regional quarterfinal. Highland advanced by beating Zephyr 48-29 in its area playoff this past Friday. Sierra Allen had 16 points and Hannah Allen 11 to pace the 13-A, Division II champion Lady Hornets, who had a first-round bye.
Highland is 28-4 for the season, while Water Valley, the runnerup in 14-A, Division II, is 25-5 overall.
Sweetwater got its base-ball season off to a roaring start here Monday, crushing San Angelo Lake View 11-0 in six innings.
The Mustangs were near-ly flawless in the three key areas against Lake View.
Ten different players ac-counted for their 12 hits and the 11 runs came from nine different players. Eight dif-ferent players had an RBI. The pitching held Lake View to one hit, a third-inning two-out single. The Mus-tangs were also errorless in the field.

Sweetwater High School will field a very experienced baseball team today when the Mustangs open their 2013 season with a 7 p.m. home game against San Angelo Lake View.
The JV team will also begin its season today against Lake View at 5 p.m.
Ten players who earned at least all-district honorable mention in 2012 are back for a Sweetwater team that narrowly missed getting to the playoffs last year.
Registration opened for the fifth annual Suddenlink Open Tony Gibson Memorial Fishing Tournament, to be held Saturday, March 2, at the Concho Pavilion on Lake O.H. Ivie, 24282 County Road 4763, in Millersview.Â Once again Joe Thomas, host of âStihlâs Reel in the Outdoorsâ on Outdoor Channel â Americaâs Leader In Outdoor TV, will award prizes and greet competitors.
For the second year in a row, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) will be hosting a 24-hour Treadmill Walkathon. The hospital announced that the event is scheduled to kickoff at 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 22 and run through 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 23, at the hospitalâs Cardiac Rehab Center.
As cardiovascular disease continues to be the leading cause of death in the United States, RPMH continues to raise awareness of cardiovascular diseases through community events such as the walkathon.
