Lady Guinevere to return to New York

Lady Guinevere Bradley White will be returning to New York City to sing in Lincoln Center along with the Southwestern Seminary Master Chorale and Southwestern Singers made up of students and community members. A total of 125 voices from the surrounding areas of Fort Worth will join in.
Guinevere had the honor to sing in Carnegie Hall in 2008 and 2009. The group will be leaving May 5 and returning on May 9. The concert will take place on Sunday May 8. Dr. David R. Thye (pronounced Tee), will be conductor in Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center.

The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 32 calls for service, issued four citations and made no arrests on May 2, 2011.
The SPD received eight 911 calls.

Calls for service:
• Burglary — 100 block of E. Oklahoma.
• Burglary — 300 block of NW Georgia.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had five calls for service, served no civil papers and made one arrest on May 2, 2011.

Arrested by NCSO:
• Terry Lynn Goolsby, 44, of Snyder — Warrant/theft.

Calls for service:
• 911 hangup — CR 247.
• Vehicle accident — Highway 153.

Charles Ray Blackburn

A graveside service for Charles Ray Blackburn, 53, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Sweetwater Cemetery, with Rev. James Baker officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Blackburn died Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in Sweetwater.
He was born Sept. 25, 1957, in Sweetwater. Charles had lived in Sweetwater most all his life. He had worked for Alex Transportation, Ennis Trucking, Union 76 in the shop and the past four years at La Quinta Inn as a cook. He attended Sweetwater schools and was Pentecostal.

Juanita Garcia

Loraine – Ms. Juanita Garcia, age 64, of Loraine, died Monday morning, May 2, 2011, in a San Angelo hospital. Services will be at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, in the St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Loraine with Father Michael Udegbunam officiating. Burial will follow in the Loraine Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Divinsio Vasquez

Colorado City – Mr. Divinsio Vasquez, age 56, of Colorado City, died Monday morning, May 2, 2011, at his residence. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church with Father Michael Udegnunam officiating. Burial will follow in the Mitchell County Cemetery under the direction of Kiker-Seale Funeral Home.

Shelton hurdling to state

LUBBOCK — After making her first trip to state as a junior, Jayci Shelton is going back — this time in both hurdles — to Austin her senior year after a clean sweep at regionals on Tuesday.
The state meet, scheduled for May 13-14 at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus, gives Shelton another shot at matching her older sister Morgan’s 2009 accomplishment of winning a first-place gold medal in the hurdles. Jayci was fifth at state last year in the 300 hurdles, and gets to compete not only in that event again later this month but in the 100 hurdles as well.

Lady Mustang Camp is June 6-9

Students completing grades 1-7 are invited to attend a Lady Mustang Basketball Camp set for June 6-9 at the Sweet-water Middle School gym, which is located on 305 Lamar Street.
Times for the camp are from 9-11:30 a.m. on all four days. The cost will be $35 and pre-registration is greatly appreciated. A concession stand will be available.
The goal of the camp is to improve players’ skills in basket-ball through instruction in individual skills and fun team competitions.

Man arrested for online solicitation

Casey Campbell, 34, was arrested on Sunday, May 1, 2011, for online solicitation of a minor/sexual contact, a second degree felony.
"We received a tip back in November from a concerned citizen that Campbell was prowling on Facebook, trying to become friendly with teenage girls," said Sweetwater Chief of Police Jim Kelley. "So we created a Facebook page for a 15-year-old girl," Kelley added.
Kelley stated that last Thursday and Friday, Campbell was "very explicit in what he wanted to do to this underage girl."

National Day of Prayer is Thursday

In honor of the National Day of Prayer, the Nolan County Ministerial Alliance is hosting a 12 hour prayer vigil at the Sweetwater Prayer Center at 1418 Hailey Street. The community is invited to join in the prayer vigil any time from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, as many unite in prayer for the nation and the community. Prayer stations will be set up following the 7X7 prayer model providing opportunities to pray for government, education, church, family, media, business, and military. 

Pioneer Museum to host volunteer coffee

The Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce will hold a special volunteer coffee event at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 4, at the Pioneer Museum. Those that have volunteered for anything involving the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce in the past year are invited to enjoy the event. The Pioneer Museum will be the host for the special coffee, but this coffee is not only for chamber members, but for chamber volunteers. The Chamber will furnish the food for the event and Terry Locklar will be preparing homemade burritos cooked on the spot outside of the Pioneer Museum. The Pioneer Museum is located at 610 E.
