A number of Nolan County high school teams are participating in three-day basketball tournaments starting Thursday.
Sweetwaterâ€™s varsity boys and girls play at events in Coahoma and Ballinger, re-spectively, while Blackwell is hosting its annual Oak Creek Classic that also in-cludes the Roscoe boys and girls, and Highlandâ€™s teams will be at Bronte. Highland hosts its annual tournament next week.

The Sweetwater Goodfellows were started by four Rotarians in approximately 1929.Â The Goodfellows have gone through many changes over the years.Â Today their mission is â€śto provide food and toys to needy families with children and food to needy individuals during the Christmas season.â€ťÂ
Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden stopped by Sweetwater Middle School on Friday, Nov. 18, 2011 as part of the Speaker's Bureau sponsored by SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise of Economic Development).
The Eighth Grade Career Investigations classes at SMS, taught by Irene Armstrong, learned about ways to approach and prepare for careers from Madden.
Trinity Baptist Church, located at 1506 Santa Fe in Sweetwater, will host a special DivorceCare class called "Surviving the Holidays." Classes will be held Tuesday, Dec. 6 and Tuesday., Dec. 13, both from 6-7:30 p.m. The class is free to anyone wishing to attend. For more information, call the church office at 325-235-2991.
DivorceCare groups meet weekly to help people face challenges of separation and divorce and move toward rebuilding their lives. Each DivorceCare session has two distinct elements:
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 47 calls for service, issued 10 citations and made one arrest on Nov. 28, 2011.
The SPD received 14, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served one civil paper and made eight arrests on Nov. 28, 2011.

ROBY-Daphene â€śGee Geeâ€ť (Kinser) Moore, 89, died Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, at Cogdell Memorial Hospital in Snyder.Â Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Roby.Â Burial will follow at Roby Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home. Visitation was held Tuesday evening from 5-6:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Casey Joe Campbell, along with attorney John S. Young, pled guilty to online solicitation of a minor, a second degree felony, to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011. District Attorney Ann Reed and Assistant District Attorney Barrett Thomas prosecuted the case.
Campbell was indicted in June 2011, on two counts of online solicitation of a minor, second and third degree felonies, enhanced to second and first degree felonies with a prior conviction. Count two was abandoned by the state.
Nolan County hosted its first of five public hearings Monday night in Roscoe to inform citizens about the needs of the county jail and some issues regarding repair to the outside of the courthouse.
Sheriff David Warren was on hand to make a presentation about the current conditions of the Nolan County jail and why he said he believes the county needs to build a new jail. His presentation included a slide show of pictures of the inside of the jail.
The Sweetwater committee of Ducks Unlimited will host its annual banquet at the Sweetwater Elks Lodge on Friday, Dec. 2, 2011, at 6 p.m.
"We are looking forward to a great crowd at this year's banquet," said committee chairman Jackie Rose. "Everyone is welcome at the banquet, which will feature auctions and raffles of wildlife and sporting art as well as goods and services donated by area businesses. Proceeds from the event will go to support DU's wetlands and waterfowl habitat conservation efforts in Texas, the U.S., Canada and Mexico."
The Nolan County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, Nov. 28, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Two presentations were given regarding county capital improvement financing from Specialized Public Finance Inc. and Coastal Securities.
Two representatives with Specialized Public Finance Inc. gave a walk through of the financing process. Several parties are involved in the matter, including a financial advisor, bond counsel, an underwriter, paying agent, credit rating agency and credit enhancement companies.
