On Wednesday, Dec. 19, Workforce Solutions of West Central Texas Board met to present awards to regional employers and recognize local initiatives at the regular scheduled board meeting.
Ludlum Measurements Inc., located in Sweetwater, was recognized as the Employer of the Year for their reputation of supplying radiation detection and measurement equipment throughout the world and their dedication to the Sweetwater community.

This year, Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) is reminding the community to become aware of the things many overlook during the winter holiday season; keeping themselves and loved ones safe during this joyous time of year.
Two reports were approved by the Sweetwater ISD (Independent School District) Board of Trustees during their meeting on Monday night, December 17 at the Administration Building.
The first report approved was the 2011-2012 financial audit report, which was presented by Kathy Wilks. A clean opinion was given on the financial statement as a whole.
A brief rundown was presented and discussed, which were compared to last year's information. Playing a role in this year's report were several grants, the energy conservation project and the passing of the Tax Ratification Election.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 38 calls for service, issued two citations and made no arrests on Dec. 18, 2012.
The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served no civil papers and made four arrests on Dec. 18, 2012.

â€¢Â Ray Salgado Gomez, 50, of Sweetwater â€” Warrant/motion to revoke probation.

Blackwell varsity teams host Sterling City starting at 2 p.m.
Blackwell lost both ends of a District 14-A, Division II basketball doubleheader at Paint Rock on Tuesday.
The Blackwell boys lost to Paint Rock 47-33 in their district opener. Mason Mag-ness paced the Hornets (2-10 overall) with 10 points while Ethan Andrews had nine points, Wade Allen and Jayden Jones six and Ted Chambliss two. Paint Rock led 12-6, 21-15 and 33-20 at the breaks.
The Thursday weather will be much cooler than yesterday with sunny skies and a high near 50. Winds will be from the northwest at 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
