Four Sweetwater High School girls track team members competed this past Saturday at the Texas Tech Indoor Invitational.
Abby Garcia competed in the high jump (4-6), 55-meter dash (8.12) and 200-meter dash (29.34); Cierra Knox competed in the shot put (28-9); and Mickenzie Brownlow and Marissa Sanchez competed in both the 55-meter dash and 400-meter dash. Brownlow ran the 55 meters in 8.29 and the 400 meters in 1:09.2, and Sanchez ran the 55 meters in 8.34 and the 400 meters in 1:09.8.
Here are the final results from the Sweetwater High School tennis tournament this past Friday. The next varsity action will be a dual match this Friday at Brownwood, while the next junior varsity action will be a tournament today in Midland.

Numerous high school boys and girls powerlifters from Sweetwater, Roscoe and the surrounding area competed at Sweetwaterâ€™s Arlon Barnes Classic this past week. It was the final qualifying meet for the girls, who qualified several individuals for regional competition that will be held March 2 in Fort Stockton. The boys have their final qualifying meet in Hawley this Saturday.
Individual (for Sweetwater and Roscoe powerlifters) and team results follow:

February is American Heart Month to observe this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Feb. 21, from 8:30-11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screenings. There will be pamphlets and information available on cholesterol.
We'll see sunny skies today with a high near 62, but we'll also have windy conditions. Winds will be from the southwest at 25 to 30 mph, increasing to 30 to 35 mph in the morning. Patchy blowing dust is expected after 1 p.m. and gusts could be as high as 50 mph.
Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with a low around 29 and breezy. Winds from the west-southwest at 20 to 25 mph will change to northern winds at 10 to 15 mph in the evening. Gusts could top out at 30 mph.

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has four dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male labrador mix puppy, a male terrier mix, a female chihuahua mix and a male chihuahua-pug mix.
According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
The annual Sweetwater Jaycees Miss Snake Charmer Scholarship Pageant is a time where young ladies from throughout the Big Country come together to compete for scholarship money. At last year's pageant, the theme for the night was Wings Across America in honor of the WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots).
The annual pageant will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Sweetwater Municipal Auditorium. The pageant is open to all girls between the ages of 16-19 who live within a 75 mile radius of Sweetwater.
The Highland girls basketball team posed with its trophy on Tuesday after beating Water Valley, 40-32, in a Class 1A, Division II regional quarterfinal playoff game in Ballinger.
The win sends the Lady Hornets into the regional semifinals where they will play Baird at 7 p.m. Friday in Abilene.
The Highland boys lost their bi-district game to Robert Lee, 37-22, in Ballinger in the second half of Tuesdayâ€™s doubleheader.

The Sweetwater Independent School District (SISD) Board of Trustees approved an increase to the student travel meal allowance during their meeting held on Monday night at the Administration Building.
With the current prices standing at $5 for a day trip and $6 per meal on an overnight trip, the district's meal allowance can barely keep up with the rising costs to pay for a standard meal. Thus, a dollar increase to both prices was proposed.
