The Sweetwater High School varsity baseball team had a 2-0-1 record through Friday at the 2011 Wood Bat Classic tournament held at Newman Park, and pitching was a big reason why. Shown is freshman Kaleb Hoover, who on Thursday threw a five-inning no-hitter in a 7-0 win over Post. The Mustangs also tied Ozona 5-5 on Friday before the game was called due to the tournament time limit. Sweetwater was 6-1-1 going into Saturday’s final day of the event when the team was scheduled to play games against Post, Slaton and Clyde.

Most people who follow baseball would agree that an inside-the-park home run and a no-hitter are two of the most exciting things in the sport.
Sweetwater fans got to see their team pull off both feats against Post in Thursday’s opening day of the Wood Bat Classic.
Cameron Fox’s inside-the-park homer capped a three-run outburst in the first inning off Post’s Chess Postell. And that was more than enough cushion for Sweetwater’s freshman hurler Kaleb Hoover, who pitched a no-hitter in his five-inning stint and struck out six in a 7-0 win.
