SAN ANGELO â Jesse Ernest Roye, 85, died Monday, April 30, 2012. Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 in Blackwell Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home/Sherwood Way.
Outgoing Sweetwater Police Chief Jim Kelley has taken a phrase from the popular TV police drama ADAM-12, "to protect and serve", and has embraced that mindset in his past 35 years of local law enforcement service.
"It fits for wearing the badge," he says.
But on May 1, 2012, he officially steps out of the police chief role toward a new journey â retirement.

The final outcome of Sat-urdayâs Class 3A bi-district softball playoff in Graham may not have been satisfy-ing for Sweetwater fans, but the 9-0 loss to Iowa Park told only part of the story.
Those who (like me) have followed the local high school sports scene in recent years have no doubt noticed how little success Sweetwater has had, especially in the âteamâ sports. But the schoolâs softball program, which had endured the longest playoff drought â 15 years â of any of them, at least did its part to change that.

James L. Baxter, age 89, of Rice, Texas, passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2012 at Dallas Veterans Hospital in Dallas.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on, Thursday, May 3, 2012 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Michael Howard officiating. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories with the Nolan County Honor Guard. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
