A total of seven Sweet-water football players have received Class 3A all-Big Country recognition from the Abilene Reporter-News.
Four of Sweetwaterâ€™s players made the second team while five players â€” two of whom also made the second team at a different position â€” were given all-Big Country honorable mention.

Troy Ray Jennings was sentenced to eight years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice on Wednesday morning, January 9, in the 32nd Judicial District Court.
A day prior to his sentencing, a seven-woman, five-man jury found Jennings guilty of failure to comply as a sex offender on Tuesday, January 8.
According to court documents, Jennings failed to report his change of employment, which is required for registration with local law enforcement, due to a reportable conviction of aggravated sexual assault. The offense was reported as occurring on May 10, 2011.
During the Sweetwater City Commission meeting on Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013, Coe Construction was awarded the bid for the construction of a new dining room and offices for the SNAP (Senior Nutrition Activities Program) building.
The bids were opened during the December 2012 meeting, but were reviewed in detail leading up to the January meeting. John Voller, the city engineer from Enprotec/Hibbs and Todd, recommended the low bid of Coe Construction--with the base bid of $366,000--and reviewed its two deductions of $48,000 and $100,000.
Construction began yesterday to remove the battered slanted wall of the facility. The Nolan County Commissioners approved a contract with McGlothlin Construction at their Dec. 10, 2012 meeting.
Once the slanted wall is removed from around the entire courthouse, the county hopes to proceed and move forward with their architect on further construction.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 21 calls for service, issued two citations and made no arrests on Jan. 8, 2013.
The SPD received 18, 911 calls.

Six players from Black-well and three from Roscoe have received all-Big Coun-try football recognition by the Abilene Reporter-News.
Roscoe freshman linebacker Vincent Pantoja was named Newcomer of the Year on the Class 1A team, with senior defensive lineman Landon Jones on the second team and sophomore quarterback Matthew Davila receiving honorable mention. Pantoja had 92 solo tackles and 44 assisted stops for the Plowboys.
The two girls basketball teams from Nolan County in District 13-A, Division II are both 2-0 after winning their games Tuesday.
Highland (19-3 overall) crushed Ira 77-21, while Roscoe (13-8 overall) beat Westbrook 31-19.
Two players â€” Sierra Allen (29) and Beth Rich-burg (24) â€” combined for 53 of Highlandâ€™s 77 points against Ira. Also scoring were Morgan Monroe with seven, Kaylee Martin with five, Lora Stewart and Sydny Helbert with three and Hannah Allen, Madison Moseley and Schyler Kim-brell with two.
Sweetwater High School honors its 2012 fall sports athletes with a banquet at 6 p.m. today at the Nolan County Coliseum annex.
Athletes will be honored in football, cross country and volleyball plus cheerleaders and trainers, and a season highlight video will be shown.
Sub-varsity boys split at Lake View
Sweetwaterâ€™s sub-varsity boys basketball teams got a split at Lake View Tuesday. The freshmen won 32-31 to improve to 6-0 this season, but the junior varsity boys lost 45-31 as they fell to 0-8 overall.
Graveside services for Virginia M. Ramirez, 55, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 12. 2013, at Hermleigh Cemetery with Pastor Randy Asebedo officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Ramirez died Thursday, Jan. 10, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
She was born on July 1, 1957 in Lockney, Texas. Virginia moved to Sweetwater from Hermleigh in 1987. She graduated from Hermleigh High School. She was a housewife and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Sweetwater.
