Representative Susan L. KingÂ will host a forum to address the legislative concerns of her constituents at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at 119 East Third Street on the second floor mezzanine in Sweetwater.
Representative King will open the forum with a short presentation on looking towards the 83rd Legislative Session and then facilitate an open discussion with opportunities for questions and answers.
The office of Representative King welcomes and encourages all constituents of District 71 who are interested in legislative affairs to attend the event.Â
The Boosting Engineering Science and Technology (BEST) Robotics competition will take place on Saturday, Oct. 20. A record number of area teams will competition on in The Center at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater. BEST works to inspire students to pursue careers in engineering, science, technology and math through participation in a sports-like science- and engineering-based robotics competition. This yearâ€™s theme is Outer Space, which is sure to spark tons of creative robots.
Sweetwater High School Varsity volleyball players gathered at the Sweetwater High School Library this week to hand out "Read" posters to promote reading and academics to each SISD campus and the County-City Library. The posters were given to each school and the County-City Library.
Various plans for the school district and its campuses were presented and approved at the meeting Monday night, October 15 of the SISD (Sweetwater Independent School District) board of trustees.
Among them were the emergency operations plans for each campus, which were emailed to board members prior to the meeting. Discussion was held on the off-campus evacuation shelters for each campus as well as the procedures to be followed by each campus.
Following approval, copies of the emergency plans will be given to local authorities and law enforcement.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued no citations and made three arrests on Oct. 17, 2012.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service, served no civil papers and made two arrests on Oct. 17, 2012.

While only two Nolan County high school football teams will see action today, their games will be crucial as Sweetwater and Roscoe will both be seeking wins on their home fields today with a chance to seriously dam-age the playoff hopes of the teams they face.
Sweetwater (1-0, 3-3) hosts Greenwood (0-1, 4-2) at 7:30 p.m. in the first-ever district meeting of the two schools, while Roscoe (1-2, 1-5) entertains Ranger (0-3, 0-6) at the same time.
