The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 115 calls for service, issued 23 citations and made three arrests from May 4-6, 2012.
The SPD received 93, 911 calls.

Donald (Nendy) Lynn Wafer, 74, of Albany died May 1, 2012. A public memorial and celebration of the life of Don Wafer, 74, of Albany, will be held in the near future at the Wafer residence outside of Albany. Please see donlwafermemorial.weebly.com for information and to RSVP.
Don was born May 7, 1937 in Sweetwater, Texas to Odis and Inez Wafer. He graduated from Sweetwater High School in 1955 and attended Texas Tech University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering on Aug. 26, 1961.
He married Martha (Maw Maw) June Barton June 12, 1957.

Karen Oâ€™Briant, beloved wife of Mickey Oâ€™Briant, passed away on Friday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. in Richmond, VA after a long and arduous battle with breast cancer. Karen and her husband Mickey had been in Virginia Beach attending a class at Atlantic University when Karen became severely ill from sudden complications due to her cancer. Karen was 59 years old and she has been a long time resident of Sweetwater, TX.
AUSTIN - The Texas Department of Public Safety today announced the implementation of new proof of residency requirements to obtain Texas driver licenses or identification cards effective May 7, 2012. The requirements, which only apply to first-time driver license and identification card applicants, are the result of legislation approved by the Texas Legislature.
U.S. Congressman Randy Neugebauer made a stop in Sweetwater on Thursday morning, May 3, 2012 for a "Coffee with the Congressman" event at JavaJax in downtown Sweetwater.
Through recent redistricting, Congressman Neugebauer represents District 19 of Texas which now covers Nolan County and spans from Lubbock to Abilene.
While Congress is currently in recess, Congressman Neugebauer noted that many important issues are before them and changes have to be made within the country.

Martin is a first grade teacher and has spent all five years of her teaching career with Sweetwater ISD. She attended Texas Tech University and Sul Ross University and has earned an Associate's degree in Science, a Bachelor of Human Science degree and a Master's in Education with Counseling.
John H.B. Roberts, 80, a long time resident of Dallas, died May 6, 2012 in Sweetwater Texas, his home since 1991.
A memorial service celebrating Johnâ€™s life will be held at the McCoy Chapel of Memories in Sweetwater, Texas, on Saturday May 12, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Curtis Ward officiating. There will be a visitation following the service at the funeral home.
Amelia Alvidrez Palacios, age 78, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Sunday, May 6, 2012 at her residence.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel recited by Cecilia Rivera.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Charles Okonkwo officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Phil Montoya, 57, was killed in a car accident in Utah on Saturday, April 21, 2012. He was a man of many interests and much intelligence, but more than anything, Phil was known as a friend. He grew up in Utah and settled in Texas after hitchhiking through most of the Western United States. He married and had two daughters, Traci and Lauren.
