Hatcher is alternate

Corey Hatcher of Roscoe will be a state alternate after placing third in the 220-pound class Saturday at the boys Region I, Division 3 meet held in Sundown. Hatcher had a lift of 1,365 pounds with a 550-pound squad, 300-pound bench press and 515-pound dead lift. Landon Jones (1,120) placed seventh for Roscoe in the 181-pound class while Jose Rangel did not place in the 165-pound class.

Children’s Art Show held at County-City Library

The Artist of the Month of March at the County-City Library is not just one person with a specific kind of art.
There are actually 153 Artists of the Month, featuring a wide variety of media styles.
The West Texas Art Guild recently sponsored a Children's Art Show at the local library, with the youngest artist being three years old spanning all the way to 18 years old. The applicants were broken down into five age groups (3-5 years; 6-8 years; 9-11 years; 12-14 years; and 15-18 years).

Helen Munroe, 95, passed from this life on March 6, 2012, at her daughter’s home in Chino, California. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 12, 2012, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview, Texas. Helen was a member of 9th & Columbia Church of Christ. Minister Evan Weiss will officiate the memorial service. Burial will follow at Parklawn Memorial Gardens under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview.

The 54th Annual Sweetwater Jaycees World's Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up was held March 9-11, at the Nolan County Coliseum where thousands of people from all over the United States and beyond visited the small town of Sweetwater to see what the Western Diamondback Rattlesnake is all about. Shown above is Sweetwater Jaycee Donnie Willman in the demonstration pit at the Round-Up.

Ten dogs available for adoption

Sweetwater Animal Control currently has 10 dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a female collie mix, female Labrador mix, male Husky, male Labrador/pit bull mix, male pug and a female boxer and her four puppies.
According to Sweetwater’s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.

The Sweetwater boys golf team won first place honors by shooting a one-day score of 314 this past Tuesday at the Seminole tournament. Guy Bond, Dylan Torres, Ryan Mercer, Alex Castillo and Mason Andrews (pictured from left) comprised the team.

Daughter of ex-SHS star leads Legacy to state title

Kailey Edwards, daughter of ex-Sweetwater High School player Corey Edwards, scored 20 points as Legacy defeated Monarch 58-51 to win the Class 5A girls state basketball championship Friday night. She will play for the University of Denver starting next year.
Monarch led 14-5 early as Alexus Johnson controlled the inside before sitting with foul trouble. However, an 11-0 run by the Lightning in the second quarter gave them a 28-26 halftime lead.
Monarch threatened but couldn’t overtake the Lightning in the end. Ashton Davis led Monarch with 13. Rebecca Richmond added 11, and Johnson had 10.
