Reserved ticket sales for the general public to all five Sweetwater High School football games for 2012 will on sale starting Monday, Aug. 6 during regular summer business hours at the Sweetwater ISD administration office on 2o7 Musgrove Street. The summer business hours for the Sweetwater ISD are 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Friday. The T.A.G. Teen Ministry at the Word of God Church recently attended Extreme Camps.
"We had a glorious time with five days of spiritual exhortation, feeding of the Word, exalting our Lord and showing the love of God to our brothers and sisters in Christ and the lost at camp. We had a commitment as a ministry together to unify in one mind, one heart, and one spirit," said Pastor Dale Stowe.
Phone scams, unfortunately, are continuing to target the region, but this time the calls are being made from international areas.
Elsie Armstead of Roscoe shared her experience of an attempted phone scam, noting that the call came up as "Kingston Jim" on her Caller ID. However, she said that the name is a cover-up for Kingston, Jamaica, the capital of the country.
A fire that burned 20 acres on Wednesday near County Road 143 and County Road 144 rekindled on Thursday and firefighters battled the blaze until about midnight on Thursday. They continued to monitor the fire on Friday morning as well.
Battling the blaze were the Sweetwater Fire Department, Texas Forest Service, Maryneal Volunteer Fire Department, Nolan Volunteer Fire Department and Lake Sweetwater Volunteer Fire Department.
Applications are currently being accepted for a place on the Highland ISD General Election Ballot.Â The filing period began on July 21, 2012 and will continue through August 20, 2012.Â Applications are available in the Superintendentâ€™s office and may be picked up and/or dropped off between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 50 calls for service, issued no citations and made five arrests on Aug. 1, 2012.
The SPD received 29, 911 calls.

Graveside services for Ann Wells, 72, of Abilene and formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Michael Davis officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 3, 2012, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Wells died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Funeral services for Jimmy Don Smith, 64, of Sweetwater, will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Stevens and Rev. Vic Meyer officiating. Interment will follow with Military Graveside Rites at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2012, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Smith died Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at his home.
Today is the final day for current option holders to renew season tickets for Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s 2012 home football games.
Tickets are $30 for the five home games and may be purchased at the Sweetwater ISD administration office during regular business hours. Reserved ticket sales for the general public go on sale at Sweetwater ISD starting Monday, Aug. 6.
The Chamber Coffee for the month of August was held at the newly remodelled Sweetwater High School Library.
The Sweetwater High School Library subscribes to GrolierOnline for students. The website offers reference databases, encyclopedias in English and Spanish, science and social studies encyclopedias, dictionaries and thesauri, 1,100 different newspapers from around the world, 765 magazines online and interactive atlas and maps. Students can access all this information at school or at home.
