Sweetwater Animal Control currently has one dog available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a chihuahua. According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
Today's weather will start off mostly cloudy but gradually become sunny with a high near 85. West-southwest winds around 5 mph will become east-northeast in the afternoon.
On Sunday night, expect a low around 62 and mostly clear skies. Winds from the east at 5 to 10 mph will become south after midnight.

On Saturday, we'll have a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms, but cloudy skies and warmer temperatures with a high near 78. Winds from the north from 5 to 10 mph will become light and from the northwest in the afternoon.
Saturday night will be mostly cloudy with a low around 60. North winds around 5 mph will become calm after midnight. We should have mostly cloudy skies and a 20% chance of precipitation as well.

AVONDALE BAPTIST CHURCH

On Sept. 11, 2012, a group met to finalize the steps necessary for starting a Republican Women's organization in Nolan County.
Officers were elected at the meeting and a name for the club was adopted: "Republican Women of West Texas."
The next scheduled meeting is set for Oct. 2, 2012, at the law office of Lance Hall at 119 East Third Street in Sweetwater, Texas. The time is set for 6 p.m., with refreshments at 6:30 p.m. for the installation of officers.

Whitney Ashford and Molly Thomas with the Hoyt House made a presentation at the local Kiwanis Club meeting on Wednesday, September 12 at Bee's Lunch Bucket in downtown Sweetwater.
Thomas is the new Wellness Director at the assisted independent living facility and noted that the Hoyt House is working on providing different activities for their residents. One of their upcoming projects is a Trunk or Treat to be held on Tuesday, October 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
Thanks in part to a state grant, the sewer line of Neff Street in Sweetwater has been fixed and the project is completed.
At the Sweetwater City Commission meeting on Tuesday, September 11, action was taken regarding the 2011 CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) Sewer Project. John Voller, with Enprotec/Hibbs and Todd, was at the meeting to present the resolution for the acceptance of the recently-completed project.
The resolution was read at the meeting, with city staff praising the work on the project. Plans are also in place for the city to seal coat the area sometime next summer.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 27 calls for service, issued two citations and made one arrest on Sept. 12, 2012.

Tonight begins the third weekend of the high school football season, and two of Nolan Countyâ€™s four teams â€” Roscoe and Highland â€” are still searching for their first victory.
Roscoe makes its first true home appearance tonight as the Plowboys will entertain Miles â€” which is also 0-2 â€” at 7:30 p.m.
On paper, this could be a fairly even matchup since Miles, like Roscoe, has only scored a total of six points so far.
Miles was defeated by Reagan County 21-0 in its opener, then lost this past week to Quanah 36-6.
