Mendon Jo Kill, age 25, of Sweetwater, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 at Roby Cemetery. Burial will follow at Roby Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Mendon Jo was born on Nov. 16, 1986 in, Randolph, Vermont, to Stephen and Debbie (Ballenger) Kill. She worked for Allen Family Style Meals. She was a Vermonter at heart and loved animals.
Aspermont â€” Betty Louise Ross went to meet her Heavenly Fatjer on Thursday evening, Sept. 27, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Central Baptist Church in Aspermont, officiated by Rev. Robby Harris with burial to follow in the Aspermont Cemetery under the care and direction of McCoy Funeral Home of Aspermont.
Betty was born on Nov. 8, 1933, in Crosbyton to Ralph Porter Edwards and Ethel Lenora Edwards. She married Morgan Ross on Dec. 20, 1964, in Crosbyton.

The theme for this weekâ€™s pep rally was â€śCommunity Heroes.â€ť Sweetwater Fire Chief Grant Madden spoke to the crowd. Also making his first public appearance was Freddie the Fire Truck. Chief Madden spoke to the elementary students and said that they were true heroes for all of the fundraising they did to repair Freddie and bring him back to Sweetwater.

Itâ€™s been only 11 months, but plenty has changed since Sweetwater and Brownwood last met on the football field this past October.
Thanks to UIL realign-ment in February, the former District 5-3A rivals are in separate districts. Sweet-water is in 4-3A along with five other schools from West Texas, while Brownwood has been moved into 8-3A with five other schools that are all in Central Texas.
See You at the Pole 2012, the Annual Global Day of Student Prayer, took place on Wednesday morning, Sept. 26, at schools across the United States, including Sweetwater schools. Many students at Sweetwater Middle School and Sweetwater High School gathered before school for prayer. To celebrate the studentâ€™s efforts and what God is doing on Sweetwater school campuses, the Sweetwater Youth Ministers Alliance organized a post event rally called the Saw You at the Pole Block Party. The block party was held Wednesday evening, Sept. 26, downtown on Oak Street.
A Nolan County Grand Jury indicted 23 people on Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, with one re-indictment. Fifteen of those indictments were sealed. The following cases were true-billed:
Samuel Lloyd Hawrylak was indicted for possession of marijuana, a state jail felony. Court documents state that Hawrylak knowingly possessed a usable amount of marijuana in an amount of five pounds or less, but more than four ounces on July 27, 2012. His bond was set at $5,000.
