The Sweetwater FFA (Future Farmers of America) chapter competed at the Area 2 FFA contest this past Saturday, Nov. 17 at Howard College.
The sole competitor advancing to state is Kyle Lambert, who placed second in Job Interview. He will compete at the state contest on Nov. 29, in Huntsville at Sam Houston State University.
Other teams placing at the area event were the Senior Quiz team, earning fifth place. The team is made up of Sean Morrow, Mackensey Hayes, Cody Chapman and Leah Warren.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 41 calls for service, issued one citation and made two arrests on Nov. 19, 2012.
The SPD received 22, 911 calls.

Arrested by SPD:
Funeral services for John Trotter, 56, of Sweetwater, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Stephens and Rev. Joe Johnson officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. at Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 26, at McCoy Funeral Home.
The family will be at 1412 E. 13th Street in Sweetwater.
Trotter died Wednesday, Nov. 21, in Sweetwater.
Sally Davis of Blackwell, TX passed away on Nov. 17, 2012. Sally is survived by two daughters, Dianne and husband Eric McWhorter of Blackwell, TX and Stephanie and husband Greg Smith of Bakersfield, CA; and two granddaughters, Amanda McWhorter and Jessica Billington.
In honoring Sallyâ€™s wishes, no service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
Felice Nesbitt Adams, 82 of Arlington, Texas passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 after a brief illness.
Colorado City rallied from a 19-17 deficit after three quarters to hand Roscoeâ€™s Plowgirls their first defeat of the year, 27-23, in Roscoe on Tuesday.
Stina Tomlin led Roscoe (4-1) with five points. Torrey Willman, Kendall Moses, Faith Boren and Carolina Perez scored four points and Shelby Brown two.
Also Tuesday, Highland swept both ends of its doubleheader against Baird with the boys (1-2) getting their first win of the year, 40-32, and the girls (4-2) rolling to a 43-28 win over Baird.

The inside lane (passing lane) of westbound Interstate 20 in Nolan County at the US 84 bridge is now open. More closures and detours will be necessary as the work progresses, but the lane will remain open at least through the Thanksgiving holiday.
Sweetwater Independent School District will be following their early release schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 21.
J.P. Cowen Early Childhood Center and Southeast Elementary School will dismiss at 12:15 p.m., followed by East Ridge Elementary School at 12:20 p.m.
Sweetwater High School will dismiss at 12:50 p.m., with Sweetwater Intermediate School following at 12:55 p.m. and then Sweetwater Middle School at 1 p.m.
The Future Sweetwater class recently had their City/County Session, touring many entities in Nolan County. The class began at the Sweetwater Fire Station and a tour was given by Sweetwater Fire Chief and Sweetwater Emergency Services Director Grant Madden. The class then traveled to City Hall on a fire truck to attend a city commission meeting. The class was welcomed by Edward Brown, City Manager. The class was given an overview of City Services by Carolyn Lawrence, Finance Director. Sweetwater Chief of Police Brian Frieda then gave the class a taser and weapons demonstration.
