The Sweetwater High School tennis team lost 11-8 to San Angelo Lake View on Thursday, but many players and pairings won their matches. The winners against Lake View included Madison Meneses and Heidi Taylor (8-2) and Jenny Medellin and Kristen Casto (9-7) in girls doubles; Chris Hernandez and Isaiah Hernandez (8-6) in boys doubles; Taylor (6-1, 6-0), Meneses (6-0, 6-0), Medellin (4-6, 6-4 with 10-8 tiebreaker) and Casto (6-0, 6-2) in girls singles; and Stephen Shipp (6-2, 1-6 with 11-9 tiebreaker) in boys singles.
A pair of Sweetwater Mid-dle School volleyball teams won first place while host-ing a Dig Pink tournament that was held at the middle school on Oct. 8.

In middle school football action this past Tuesday, Sweetwater eighth grade teams got a win and a tie against Big Spring. How-ever, both seventh grade teams lost at Big Spring.
Both of the seventh grade teams host Snyder Tuesday while the two eighth grade squads are at Snyder.

Adrian Vizzerra was great on both sides of the ball for Sweetwater Red, catching scoring passes of 15 and 20 yards from Max Gomez and also scoring on a 40-yard interception return.

National WASP Museum Board Member Bill Johnson recently represented the museum at the 40th annual National Stearman Fly-in at the Galesburg, Ill., Municipal Airport. Bill joined new friends of the museum, Marie and Pete Spear, there to enjoy flying in their vintage Stearman and marvel at the other 138 WWII biplanes.
Along with the Spears, Bill and the other enthusiasts toured the flight line, took airplane rides and enjoyed performances by pilots of this classic that have served in roles from military trainer to aerial applicator to show aircraft since 1934.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 42 calls for service, issued three citations and made three arrests on Oct. 13, 2011.
The SPD received 20, 911 calls.

â¢ Christopher Hayes, 34 â Possession of a controlled substance.
â¢ Merced Flores, 29 â Aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 14 calls for service, served one civil paper and made no arrests on Oct. 13, 2011.

This month Region 14 Education Service Center Head Start and others like it across the country will join together to celebrate and strengthen the nationâs awareness of the Head Start Program.
TSTC Sweetwater recently announced a series of culinary classes for the community.
"A Tour of Italy: Learn the Art of Italian Cuisineâ is a series of four classes that will take place on Monday evenings from 6-9:30 p.m. The classes will meet on Monday, Nov. 7, 14, 28 and Dec. 5 in Room 127 of the Temple Dickson building at TSTC Sweetwater. Participants can enroll in just one class or all four. Each class costs $50 and will be taught by TSTC Sweetwater chefs.
Margaret Evelyn Hiscock Adams, 86, of Abilene, Texas passed away on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011, at her home.
