Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Dominga Chapa, 86, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Father Charles Okonkwa officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be said by Maria AcuĂ±a at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Chapa died Tuesday, June 19, 2012, at Nolan Nursing and Rehab in Sweetwater.
ArlingtonÂ â€”Â ShirleyÂ FeaganÂ Greer, 74, passed away peacefully with her family by her side and went home to her Lord and Savior on June 18, 2012. She was a loving wife of 55 years to Dell Greer, a mother of two boys, Nana to six grandchildren and a friend to many.
AÂ funeralÂ serviceÂ to honor her lifeÂ will be held on Friday, June 22, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church Arlington. The family will have visitation at Arlington Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, June 21, 2012. Â
The deadline for eligible service members, veterans and their beneficiaries to apply for Retroactive Stop Loss Special Pay (RSLSP) has been extended to Oct. 21, 2012, providing those eligible more time to apply for the pay under the program guidelines.
Due to the construction of a new medical office building at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, the walking track and related areas will be closed beginning June 18, 2012. Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital apologizes for any inconvenience and looks forward to the reopening of this area to the public at the completion of construction.
The SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) Board of Directors met for their regular monthly meeting on Monday morning, June 18, 2012 at the Chamber of Commerce.
Kirstin Smith, the Asst. Marketing/Admin. Director, gave an update, recapping SEED's recent trip to the 2012 Windpower Conference that was held in Atlanta, Georgia. The show went well, with around 12,000 in attendance. While attendance was cited as lower than usual, the quality of the show was one of the best in recent years.
Nolan County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director Dennis Cumbie, announced that county committee election nominations began June 15, 2012. Farmers, ranchers and landowners are encouraged to nominate farmer and rancher candidates to serve on their local FSA county committee by the August 1, 2012 deadline.
Elected county committee members serve a three-year term and are responsible for making decisions on FSA disaster, conservation, commodity, and price support programs, as well as other important federal farm program issues.

James Shute, age 76, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2012 at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Frankie Santiago officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Sweetwaterâ€™s Major League (ages 11-12) Dâ€™backs finished as the runnerup team after advancing to the championship game of their District 5 Little League tournament. Sweetwater beat the Snyder Braves 9-7 and Jim Ned 5-4, then lost to Dixieâ€™s Mets 5-4.
But, they advanced as the wild card team and beat Wylieâ€™s Rangers 11-8 to advance to the District 5 championship game for a rematch with Dixieâ€™s Mets. However, they lost 4-3 to finish as the District 5 runnerup.
