Freddie the Fire Truck is back in Sweetwater after a hiatus from teaching the children of Sweetwater about fire safety.
Freddie the Fire Truck came to Sweetwater Fire Department about 20 years ago. He had served a long life of educating and entertaining local children. Freddie the Fire Truck has had some rough times in the recent past, with Freddie getting to be the age he is, and unfortunately, was unable to continue his work with the local school fire prevention and safety programs due to his advanced age and the wear and tear of Freddie's components.

Two weather-shortened scrimmages against Wich-ita Falls Hirschi and San Angelo Lake View weren’t able to accomplish every-thing Shane Mobley had hoped. However, the first-year Sweetwater head coach still thinks his team will be ready for Friday’s season opener at the Sammy Baugh Classic against a highly regarded Eastland squad.
And Mobley knows that his players’ ability to successfully execute his new spread offense will be crucial to the final outcome.
After an 0-10 season a year ago, Roscoe head coach Jonathan Haseloff would like nothing more than for his Plowboys to win today’s 7:30 p.m. season opener against De Leon to begin the Sammy Baugh Classic.
A victory at Mustang Bowl over the Bearcats, who were 3-7 a year ago, would go a long way toward getting the program back on track to reaching the heights it has normally enjoyed.
And playing against Haw-ley’s Wing-T offense, which is similar to De Leon’s, in last week’s final scrimmage will help Roscoe know what to prepare for today.
