The Sweetwater freshman football team ended its season by beating Wylie 16-6 here on Thursday.
Sweetwater trailed Wylie 6-0 before scoring on the last 16 points.
Dâ€™Jaman West scored on a 15-yard run to tie the game and Adrian Vizzerra caught a two-point pass to give Sweetwater the lead. A 50-yard fumble return by Max Nemir for a touchdown extended the lead to 14-6, and Vizzerra ran over the two-point PAT to complete Sweetwaterâ€™s comeback.
Sweetwater had several standouts on both sides of the ball against Wylie.
Blackwellâ€™s football team secured its first postseason berth since the 2008 seas-on by edging Panther Creek, 58-54, on Friday.
This also marks only the second time that Blackwell has reached the playoffs since the 2002 season. The team will advance to face Loraine in bi-district at Hermleigh this Friday.
No other details were available at press time but will be in Mondayâ€™s paper.
Big Spring 0-5
+Wylie will be representing the district in the Division I (big school) playoffs starting this week, while Monahans and Greenwood will both be playing in the Division II (small school) playoffs.
Cross Plains 5-2
+Albany will represent the district in the Division I playoffs, with Hamlin and Cross Plains competing in the Division II playoffs.
SIX-MAN, DIV. I
The Highland and Roscoe football teams were both involved in very competitive season-ending games, but lost close contests.
Highland wrapped up on Thursday by losing to Hermleigh 59-48 in its final six-man game, while Roscoe lost 14-7 on Friday in its Class 1A 11-man game with Roby.
HERMLEIGH â€” Highland led Hermleigh after each of the first three periods, but was outscored 12-0 in the final 10 minutes. Highland finishes 0-3 in district and 5-5 overall while Hermleigh ends at 1-2, 3-7.
SAN ANGELO â€” Sweet-water jumped out to a 13-2 lead after one quarter and coasted to a 45-28 win over San Angelo Lake View in varsity girls basketball act-ion on Friday.

Sweetwater girls at Wichita Falls Hirschi â€” JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 6:30 p.m., freshmen at 7:30 p.m.
Roscoe girls host Robert Lee â€” JV at 5 p.m., varsity at 6:15 p.m.
Highland JV and varsity teams host Aspermont (season openers for boys) starting at 4 p.m.
KXOX Radio in Sweetwater will host its eighth annual Veterans Day Shout-Out from 1-4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 12, 2012. The show will include interviews with singer Barbara Mandrell and star of the Hart of Dixie series Claudia Lee. You can also hear shout-outs from many others.
A graveside services for Irmgard Mahaffey Campbell, 85, of Abilene, was held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at McCaulley Cemetery with Rev. Keith Clower officiating. Interment followed under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Campbell died Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at Coronado Nursing Center in Abilene.

November is American Diabetes Month, and to acknowledge this Alice Velez from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the health department on Thursday, Nov. 29, from 8:30 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose and answer any questions you may have regarding diabetes. On Sunday, November 18, a half-century of service will be celebrated as the 50th anniversary of the Lawrence Family Thanksgiving Dinner will be held at the First United Methodist Church (FUMC) fellowship hall, located at 309 Cedar Street in Sweetwater.
Starting at 11:30 a.m., a full Thanksgiving meal-- "with all of the trimmings and none of the cleanup"--will be served and continue until 1 p.m. Providing this year's decorations at the event will be church member Karan Bergstrom.
