State Representative Susan L. King stopped in Sweetwater on Thursday, Sept. 8, to host the monthly Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce coffee event at the Sweetwater Country Club. King spoke to residents about several issues and gave an update on what is going on in Austin. She is shown above with Chamber Executive Vice President Jacque McCoy.
On Friday afternoon, Sept. 9, 2011, the Nolan County Courthouse suffered some building damage. One marble slab â€” which covers the entire outside of the courthouse â€” approximately 10 feet by 5 feet, weighing about 2,000 pounds, fell off of the courthouse into the north entrance. Nolan County Sheriff David Warren and a deputy took a square foot chunk, weighed it, and calculated the weight based on the overall dimensions of the slab. The slab cracked a section of sidewalk and part of the planter closest to the doors at the courthouse. There were no injuries.
After a lengthy illness, Major Bennet B. Monde of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on 8 September, 2011, at the age of 82.
Funeral services for Catherin Louise Martin, 76, of Belton and formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Bruce Parsons officiating. Interment will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Martin died Thursday, Sept. 8, 2011, in Belton.
Martin was born April 10, 1935, in Claudell, New Mexico. She married J.T. Martin on May 5, 1973, in Sweetwater. Catherin moved to the Sweetwater area in 1960 and she was a homemaker. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Funeral services for Mary Helen (Nunn) Hendrix, 66, of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Brian Brownlow officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 12, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Hendrix died Friday, Sept. 9, 2011, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

Sweetwater (1-1), meanwhile, hopes to get back in the win column at Levelland today after losing to Monahans at the Sammy Baugh Classic this past weekend.

Lamar Street Baptist Church will be holding a revival starting on Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011 through Wednesday, Sept. 14.
Evangelist Tom McCollister will speak at each service, and special guest Jerry Lewis will lead worship and provide special music.
The revival will begin on Sunday morning, Sept. 11 during the regular morning worship service, starting at 10:40 a.m. The evening services will be held each night, Sunday through Wednesday, at 7 p.m.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 65 calls for service, issued three citations and made one arrest on Sept. 7, 2011.
