Located at 606 E. Broadway is TanLand, owned and operated by Sondra Reeves. Reeves, who recently moved back from San Angelo, opened TanLand on Saturday, July 7, and offers by the minute, monthly and yearly memberships for tanning beds, in-house or mobile spray tanning (service by appointment only). Currently her hours are 3-9 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. Reeves will soon be adding clothing and accessories to her inventory.
Two volleyball camps are being held this week at Sweetwater Middle School. Some of the girls in the morning session, which runs through Friday, are shown here. An afternoon camp is also being held through Thursday at the SMS gym for younger girls.
Volleyball players at the high school level are also having their first workouts this week at the SHS gym to get ready for the 2012 sea-son, where the Lady Mustangsâ€™ opening matches will be played here next Monday and Tuesday.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 42 calls for service, issued two citations and made three arrests on Aug. 6, 2012.

Today's Sweetwater weather is looking at remaining under the century mark, with a high near 99. A 30% chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms are a possibility through the morning hours. Light and variable winds in the morning will shift to the southwest at 5 to 10 mph.

Hannah Vermillion and Natalie Barela, piano students of Noreen Carson, participated in the All-Star Festival during the Texas Music Teachers Association's annual convention held in June in Grapevine receivingÂ superior ratings for theirÂ performances.
The Sweetwater Independent School District completed a process last year which included public input, surveys and a committee of students, parents, teachers, principals and administrators to come up with an improved dress code for Sweetwater ISD schools. "We began with a public forum months ago where the students modeled standard attire. Although standard attire did not receive the majority of votes, a definite majority supported change," stated Assistant Superintendent Kathy Smartt. "The committee worked diligently to address the specific concerns of sagging and cleavage.
The 2012 Jump Rope Camp is off to a great start. The camp began Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, with 29 children in the morning class and 29 in the afternoon class.
This is Rajeania Pittman's 12th year to coach the Jump Rope Team. Overall, the Jump Rope program has been going on for over 20 years, with this being the sixth year for the camp.
Instructors at the afternoon camp were Sarah Tegethoff, Madison Meneses, Carly Johnson and Bryce Hamilton.
One person entered a guilty plea during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012.
Patrick Lemone Hutson, Sr., with attorney Jacob Blizzard, pled guilty to family violence assault, a third degree felony, which occurred on May 19, 2012.
For his plea, Hutson received three years of community supervision. He will have to pay a $1,000 fine, $309 in court costs and $500 in attorney's fees. He will also have to serve 160 hours of community service and shall attend and successfully complete the Male Batterers Intervention Program.

Floyd M. Leach, age 90, went home to be with his Lord Jesus on Saturday, August 4, 2012.
He was born April 14, 1922 to Gilbert R. and Vada (Morris) Leach in Phelan, Texas. He married Nell Ruth Bullock on May 4, 1942 in Colorado City, Tx.
He joined the U.S. Army Air Force on Oct. 19, 1942, and was shipped out to India where he was attached to the 333rd Airdrome Squadron. He was in aircraft maintenance during the war. After the war he came home and attended Texas Tech under the GI Bill, where he earned a degree in accounting.
