Lady Mustangs on verge of postseason after defeating Wylie

April 9, 2012

ABILENE — After scor-ing a season-high 15 runs in a key win at Big Spring three days earlier, Sweet-water again brought out the big lumber on Friday when it traveled to Wylie for the last of four straight road games in District 5-3A softball play.
And after a 10-6 win, the Lady Mustangs are on the verge of making history as just the second team to advance to postseason play since Sweetwater began playing UIL softball.

Bulldogs pull away to defeat Mustangs

April 9, 2012

ABILENE — For four in-nings of Friday’s rematch, a Sweetwater team that had lost 16-1 at home to Wylie in its District 5-3A opener stood toe-to-toe with the first-place Bulldogs.
The Mustangs even held a brief 4-1 lead after pushing across three runs in their half of the fourth inning before Wylie tied it by scor-ing three runs as well.
Unfortunately, the scor-ing pretty much ended there for Sweetwater, while Wylie was just getting started. The Bulldogs took their first lead, 8-4, with a four-run fifth and went on to a 10-5 win over the Mustangs.

Wreck early Friday morning

April 6, 2012

A wreck involving a pickup pulling a 16 foot trailer and a semi truck at the intersection of Highway 84 and Interstate 20 occurred just before dawn Friday morning, April 6, 2012. There were five people in the truck and one in the semi truck.  The Chevy truck took the exit too fast and went in to the path of the passing semi truck, according to Sweetwater Emergency Service Manager Grant Madden. "Despite the major damage to the truck, there were no serious injuries. A passing Mustang hit a piece of debris in the dark and suffered major damage as well," said Madden.
