SWEETWATER â The Texas AgriLife Extension Service offices in Nolan and Fisher counties will conduct a program for cattle producers hit by drought and fire from 10:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 6 at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex in Sweetwater.Â
âItâs been a tough year with no end in sight,â said Zachary Wilcox, AgriLife Extension agent in Nolan County. âMany of our producers have had a double-whammy due to the ongoing dry weather coupled with the huge wildfires weâve been having.

The Oak Creek Lake Association (OCLA) announced contributions of $1,000 to the Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD) of Blackwell and Bronte as well as $1,000 to each Emergency Medical Services (EMS) of Bronte and Blackwell for a total of $4,000 contributed.
The City of Sweetwater owns Oak Creek Lake and surrounding property (with few exceptions) and leases lake lots to individuals. The lake is the major source of drinking water to the city of Sweetwater. The lessees pay taxes in Coke County and some lake lots pay Blackwell ISD taxes.
The Nolan County Sheriff's Office is asking for your help in solving a crime that occurred at the Sweetwater Country Club. Sometime between 10 p.m. on Sunday, June 26, 2011, and 10 a.m. on Monday, June 27, 2011, unknown person(s) caused damage to several golf carts and also caused damage to one of the greens on the golf course.
Crime Stoppers will pay a cash reward for information received this week that leads to an arrest or indictment in this case.

Employees of Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital recently donated bottled water to assist local firefighters and volunteers. The students at Kids Kampus school-age center had the chance to take a fun field trip on Friday to the Texas Theater. The students watched an animated movie and also received a personal popcorn and drink to enjoy the movie.
The Big Country Cutting Horse Association Secretary and Director of Big Country Cutting Horse Association, Suzy Watson received a check in the amount of $17,500 from the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce. The Nolan County Commissioners Court called a special meeting on Friday, July 1, at the Nolan County Courthouse.
As approval must take place on a weekly basis, approval was once again given to extend the disaster declaration for Nolan County along with the order prohibiting outdoor burning for one week.
