Cooler temperatures seem to be making their way to Sweetwater on Monday, with sunny skies and a high near 95. Winds from the north-northeast around 5 mph will become southern winds later in the day.
Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a low around 68. Winds will be at the east-southeast at 5 to 10 mph. Be on the lookout for a 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 11 p.m.

Juanelle Jordan, 2012-2014 president of Gamma Tau Chapter, and other local educators joined more than 1,000 key women educators from throughout the state for the 83rd Annual Convention of the Texas State Organization of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International at the Irving Convention Center in Las Colinas, June 21-23. With over 11,000 members in Texas, the honor society for women educators promotes excellence in education and personal and professional growth of women educators.
The following is the bell schedule for all schools and information for each bus route. The bus route information includes the bus number, driver and morning and afternoon pick up and drop off sequence. All routes will be the same daily. Each driver will designate stops for each route and stick to those stops throughout the school year. The student is responsible for being at the designated stop prior to the arrival of the bus. If the student is not at the designated stop upon the arrival of the bus it may result in the student being left.
Afternoon pick up procedures and information:
The Big Country Wheat Conference, conducted biennially by the Texas AgriLife Extension Service, will be held Aug. 23 in the Big Country Hall located on the Taylor County Exposition Center grounds, 1982 Lytle Way in Abilene.
On-site registration will start at 7:30 a.m. The conference will end at 4 p.m.
Graveside services for Robert Owen Geiger, 67, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012, at Colorado City Cemetery. Rev. Paul Smith will officiate and interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Geiger died Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, in Sweetwater.
He was born Sept. 2, 1944, in Colorado City, Texas.
He is survived by his brother, Dale Geiger and wife Leslie of Colorado City; sister, Joyce Shoemaker of Colorado City; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George William and Gladys Bell.
Shane Mobley didnâ€™t get to see as much of his team as he had hoped due to lightning and rain that halted Sweetwaterâ€™s season-opening scrimmage against Wichita Falls Hirschi after 55 minutes here Saturday.
But the new Sweetwater head football coach still saw some encouraging signs when the Mustangs were on the field, especially on the offensive side of the ball.
NEW ORLEANS â€” Ex-Sweetwater High and University of Texas-El Paso star Joseph Banyard, now with the New Orleans Saints, played in his third exhibition game Friday as the Saints lost to the Jack-sonville Jaguars 27-24.
Banyard, who recently signed a three-year con-tract with the Saints as a rookie free agent, finished the game with 6 yards rushing on two carries and also caught two passes for 17 yards. It was the first time Banyard had not led the team in rushing during exhibition play. Banyard has rushed for 51 yards on 14 carries and also caught four passes for 20 yards in three games.
Roscoeâ€™s football team played its first of two scrimmages on Friday, when it hosted Haskell on Plowboy Fieldâ€™s new turf which was installed after last season.
The scrimmage was delayed almost an hour due to threatening weather in the area but still drew a good turnout.
Also, Blackwell held its first scrimmage Friday when the Hornets traveled to Hermleigh while both Sweetwater and Highland were scheduled to hold their first scrimmages Saturday.
For many families, the "back to school" journey is a financially trying time--especially for families with more than one child. This year, various churches are doing their part by holding school supply drives to get the school year started on a positive note for families in need.
Shorie Henderson, a member of Emmanuel Fellowship, has organized a school supply drive to benefit anyone in need from kindergarten through high school age students.
The Texas National Bank Board of Directors recently elected Mike Fernandez as Vice President. The election was announced today by Bill Johnson, President and CEO. Fernandez is expected to be involved in the bankâ€™s financial operations as well as lending according to Johnson. Mike comes to Sweetwater from San Antonio where he served as Bank Officer / Credit Analyst for Plains Capital Bank.
