The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 51 calls for service, issued seven citations and made two arrests on June 11, 2012.

Graveside services for Leon âCottonâ Rawlings, 80, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Gary Ruffin officiating. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be Friday, June 15, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home.
Rawlings died Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
He was born Sept. 29, 1921 in Troup, TX. He lived in Sweetwater since 1943. He co-owned and operated Short Stop Grocery in Sweetwater for several years.
Philip Enoch Teague ended his 94-year earthly journey and was promoted to glory on June 12, 2012. He passed away in Duncan, Okla. from congestive heart failure and complications of old age.
Philip was born Sept. 12, 1917, near Comanche, Okla. to Fred William and Alvurney May Emert Teague. He married Willie Ruth Bahlman, his wife of 68 years, in Wilmeth, Texas, on Dec. 19, 1943. The family moved to Sweetwater, Texas in 1948, where they lived south of the city until 2010 when they moved to Oklahoma to be near their son.
Rondald Hendrix, age 76, known as âPapa Ronâ of Gatesville, passed away on Monday, June 11, 2012 in Gatesville.
Graveside services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 16, 2012 at the Restland Cemetery in Gatesville, with Rev. Willie Clarke officiating.Â The family will receive visitors from 5-7 p.m. on Friday at Scottâs Funeral Home.
He is survived by his sons, Ruben Hendrix and wife Kim of Gatesville, Ronnie Hendrix of Abilene, Casey Hendrix and wife LaDonna of Midland; daughter, Carrie Hendrix of Midland; numerous step children; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Amber Hernandez, a freshman Sweetwater High School art student of teacher Scharles Kelley, was presented with a resolution for advancing to the state VASE (Visual Arts Scholastic Event) competition.

The Sweetwater Kiwanis Club is joining forces with Pappy's Bait and Grill Shop to sponsor a Kids Fishing Tournament to be held on Saturday, June 16, 2012.
The event will be held at the Lake Sweetwater Boat Ramp, with the competition running from 8 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The entry fee is $5 per entrant, which includes lunch, gifts and prizes that will take place after the tournament. Prizes will be awarded for the Biggest Fish, Smallest Fish and Outstanding Angler to the following age groups: 3 to 5 year olds, 6 to 8 year olds, 9 to 12 year olds and 13 to 16 year olds.
A Resolution honoring the 2012 Sweetwater Middle School TMSCA (Texas Math and Science Coaches Association) teams for qualifying for state was presented at a Sweetwater ISD School Board Meeting.Â
The teams are made up of members Kilanie Arpin, Marc Butler, John Clift, Annaliese Espinoza, Lizzie Gray, Kaylee Lantto, Christa Martin, Adrian Ortega, Jaelynn Page, Daniel PeĂąa, Isabella PeĂąa, Erick Rico and Chance Saunders and are led by teachers Larry Hopple, Dan Huskerson and Carola Martin.
After joining Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital (RPMH) six months ago, Dr. Timothy Jones celebrated the opening of his new office at the Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Doctorâs Clinic on Monday, June 11, 2012.
Jones joined RPMH as a board-certified family physician in December 2011. Having worked in several communities primarily across Oklahoma and Texas, Jones has more than 26 years of experience treating patients.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has one dog available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male mixed breed dog. According to Sweetwaterâs animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
