This year's American Heart Walk/Run has been set for Saturday, October 20, 2012. During the Sweetwater Business Leadership Breakfast held on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at The Center at the local TSTC (Texas State Technical College) campus, various community leaders gathered to learn more about the American Heart Association and the upcoming event, which will help raise funds to fight cardiovascular diseases. The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 53 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on Aug. 7, 2012.

Holy Mass of Christian Burial for Esperanza Torres, 85, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Father Charles Okonkwa will officiate and interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
A Rosary will be said on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, at 7 p.m. at McCoy Chapel of Memories.
Torres died Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services for Herbert Randall Adams, 59, of Sweetwater, formerly of Hermleigh, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012 at McCoy Chapel of Memories. Mike Crowley and Bo Whitteker will officiate, with interment to follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be on Friday, Aug. 10, 2012, from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Hendrick Cancer Center, 2000 Pine Street, Abilene, Texas 79601.
Adams died Wednesday, Aug. 8, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
Wendy Lee Harder, 54, of Sweetwater, died Aug. 7, 2012, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.
No funeral services are planned and she was cremated.

GRANBURY â€” Lois Gene Byrd Greenfield, 83, passed away Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, in Oklahoma City.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2012, at Granbury Church of Christ. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12, 2012, at Palava Cemetery in Sweetwater, Texas. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Friday at Wiley Funeral Home.
Mrs. Greenfield was born May 30, 1929, in Palava, Texas, to Cleon and Erna Bonner Byrd. She married Lewis E. "Lew" Greenfield, June 12, 1948, in Sweetwater. She had been a Granbury resident for 16 years and was a member of Granbury Church of Christ.
Sweetwater High School tennis coach Chris Terry has announced that player tryouts will be held at the high school courts on Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 15-16, starting at 9 a.m.
Terry also announced that practices for the fall season will begin on Monday, Aug. 20 beginning at 4 p.m. at the high school courts.
Terry was hired as the new SHS tennis coach this summer to replace Shella Arnwine, who resigned to take coach-ing job in Roscoe.

Sweetwater resident, Irma Cantu, has been cooking and baking for the majority of her life. The oldest of five children, Irma was born in Lamesa, raised in Roby, and has resided in Sweetwater for the last 35 years. She is married to Adam Cantu and has two daughters, Jennifer and Monica Cantu, and three grandchildren.
