WILLIAM D. “BILL” SWARTZ

Graveside services for William D. “Bill” Swartz, 71, of Sweetwater, will be held Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at 10 a.m. in Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Abilene, Texas with Military Graveside Rites performed by the U.S. Army Military Honor Guard from Fort Hood, Texas with Chaplain Eddie Rivera officiating. Interment will follow under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Swartz died Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011, at Hendrick Medical Center in Abilene.

Harold Wayne Smith

Harold Wayne Smith, 55, of Sweetwater, died Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2011, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Big Spring.  Graveside services with Military Honors will be at 10 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery at Abilene.
He was born Aug. 31, 1956, in Sweetwater, Texas to Edna Ruth Mayhugh and Reuben E. Smith. He was a graduate of Sweetwater High School. He served in the United States Navy from 1975 until 1979. He was a self-employed construction worker. He had been a lifetime resident of Sweetwater and was a Lutheran.

Robert F. Fee, Jr.

Robert Francis “Bob” Fee, Jr. died Sept. 12. A retired cattle rancher, he had lived in Lubbock for the last 12 years. His ranching operations were in Mitchell (Rock Hole Ranch) and Nolan Counties, and he loved the ranching culture of which he was a part. His recollections and stories about West Texas ranching would have made an interesting history about this fraternity to which he so passionately belonged. He was often among the first to adopt new ranching procedures.

Douglas Ray Lawrence

Douglas Ray Lawrence, 60, of San Angelo, passed away unexpectedly while celebrating his 60th birthday with his family. Doug (aka Poppy, and Coach Lawrence) was born on Sept. 15, 1951 in Snyder, TX.
Visitation will be held from 6-7 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Johnson’s Funeral Home.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry Douglas Lawrence and Mary Elizabeth Lawrence.

Anne Little

Anne Little, age 62, of Sweetwater, Texas, arrived in heaven on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011.   
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011 at 2 p.m., at First Christian Church with Rev. Eric Von Atzigen officiating. She will rest peacefully at Garden of Memories. Arrangements under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. 
Lizabeth Anne Little was born on Oct. 4, 1948, in Junction, Texas. She married Darold Little on July 18, 1972 in San Angelo, Texas. She was a homemaker and a member of Emmanuel Fellowship Church. 

Dorotha Mae Ford Smith

Dorotha Mae Ford Smith, 89, passed from this life on Sept. 17, 2011, to join her savior Jesus Christ and a host of angels. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19, 2011, at Roscoe Church of Christ with Dan Boren, Royce Clay and Hershel McDonald officiating. Burial will follow at Roscoe Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home in Roscoe. A family visitation will be held Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, from 7-8:30 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home in Roscoe.

Nolan County Board of Realtors questioning flood zone

The Nolan County Board of Realtors, (NCBR) is planning on sending out a survey to the Sunnyvale, Fairway and Club Trail neighborhoods. The NCBR wants to determine if the homeowners on the southern side of these streets would be interested in a joint effort with the NCBR in taking steps to have their area reevaluated and to possibly have the flood zone status removed.

Resident appointed to Texas Commission on the Arts by Gov. Perry

Gov. Rick Perry has appointed seven members to the Texas Commission on the Arts. The commission encourages appreciation for fine arts in Texas, and acts in an advisory capacity regarding the construction and remodeling of state buildings and works of art.

The SPD received 13, 911 calls.

• Tina Limon, 42 — Theft.
• Amber Welch, 23 — Theft/warrant.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had seven calls for service, served no civil papers and made no arrests on Sept. 14, 2011.

• Suspicious vehicle — CR 181.
