First Financial Trust & Asset Management Company, N.A. today announced the election of Douglas Wayne Chowning as a Senior Vice President. Chowning will office at First Financial Bank, N.A., Sweetwater, and will manage the Sweetwater trust office. He is succeeding Michael D. Sheehan, Executive Vice President, who will retire on Dec. 31, 2011. The announcement was made by Kirk W. Thaxton, CTFA, President and CEO of the Trust Company.

Gerald D. Bales went missing from approximately 1/2 mile E. of FM-1170 on CR-181, SE of Maryneal, Texas. The personâ€™s home address is listed as 1565 N. Business 35, New Braunfels, TX 78130.
Bales has taken prescription medications and may be taking Zoloft and/or other anti-depression type medications currently.
Bales normally resides in the New Braunfels, TX area and was in Nolan County conducting business for a New Braunfels attorney on a ranch in far western Nolan County.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 32 calls for service, issued no citations and made one arrest on Sept. 13, 2011.

The Woman's Forum of Sweetwater presented a check to the Pioneer Museum on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The proceeds came from the Forum's summer tour of Home and Outdoor Living Area Tour. The Leadership Sweetwater class of 2012 started their nine month course Tuesday morning at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater. The program is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and is a hands-on, interactive experience that allows members to have fun and bond while they learn. The members of the 2012 class will be learning how Sweetwater works by getting "locked up" in jail, sitting in on court sessions and touring the fire station and water treatment facility. They will also be introduced at the City Commission meeting in October.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital today was named one of the top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and childrenâ€™s asthma.
The Nolan County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, Sept. 12, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Two public hearings took place during the meeting: for the proposed property tax rate for 2011-12 and the records management fund for the County Clerk's office. No input, however, was offered for either forum.
David Keith Geron, age 58, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.Â
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home ChapelÂ with Rev. Wayne Brown officiating.Â Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.Â Â Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 from 6-8 p.m.
