Sweetwater had track athletes with top-three finishes in five events at the District 5-3A meet which ended Thursday in Abilene. As a result, those athletes be heading to Lubbock later this month for regional competition.
On the boys side, Sweetwaterâ€™s Nick Nemir qualified in three events as he placed third in the 100 dash (10.88) and the 300 hurdles (40.31) and also ran a leg on the 4 x 200 relay that placed third (1:33.70). The other relay runners were Sam Nemir, who is Nickâ€™s brother, along with Kaleb Hoover and Ryan Linebaugh.
After a thrilling start to the week that saw Sweetwaterâ€™s softball team clinch its first playoff berth in 16 years, the Lady Mustangs hosted first-place Brownwood Friday and pounded out 10 hits off ace pitcher Sydney Laws â€” including solo homers by Suede Shirley and Claire Williams. It was not enough, however, as Brownwood (7-0) won, 15-3, to clinch its third straight district title.
With its playoff hopes on the brink of extinction, Sweetwaterâ€™s baseball team finally found the winning formula against Brownwood here Friday.
Playing the first game of a season-ending three-game homestand at Newman Park, the Mustangs (2-4) held off the Lions 4-3 to end a three-game skid and keep their postseason chances alive in District 5-3A.

Sweetwater girls team (Alex Gomez, Rachel Hunt, Elise Lawrence, Haylee Stewart and Amy Witt) will be competing at Region I-3A tournament in San Angelo through Thursday, April 19.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 48 calls for service, issued seven citations and made two arrests on April 12, 2012.

David (Jenero) Prado passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2012. Funeral service was on Monday, April 16, 2012 at 11 a.m. at the St. Michaels the Archcangle Catholic Church in Grand Prairie, TX.
David worked for Gifford Hill which then turned to Hanson Pip. He lived in Grand Prairie, TX. David and Josephine were married for 46 years.
On Sunday, April 15, 2012, the angels took her to heaven. She was 80 years old. Jo Nell, of Sweetwater, was born Jan. 16, 1932, in Luther, TX to Mildred Lawrence and Lester Caughey. At the age of 15, she and her family moved to the Stephenville area where she graduated from Stephenville High School and met her life partner, Carl Max Burgan. Jo Nell and Carl Max married on Aug. 17, 1950, in Ft. Worth where they lived until moving to Sweetwater in 1953.
A 3D Archery Shoot, sponsored by the Sweetwater Bow Hunter's Association, will be held on Friday, April 28 and Saturday, April 29, 2012 on the north side of Lake Trammell.
Sign-in will take place on the back side of the dam under the cotton wood tree or at the picnic tables. The event has a $10 shooting fee which covers both days.
Free shooters include military and youth; youth under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Also, volunteers who help set up targets on Friday afternoon will get to shoot free.
The Sweetwater High School FCCLA conducted a fundraiser to benefit the Regalado family who lost their house recently to a fire. The students made chocolate covered strawberries which were sold during the week of Feb. 14, raising $300. This was presented to Mrs. Regalado by Rachel Ratliff.
A local musician is about to join forces with a nationally-recognized Tejano group.
Chapo Cerda of Sweetwater will make his debut with Grupo Vida, a three-time Grammy award nominee, on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at the Salsa Fest in Three Rivers, Texas.
Grupo Vida, also known as the Electric Cowboys, have toured with some well-known country acts like the Dixie Chicks, Willie Nelson, and Jo Dee Messina and Kevin Fowler. On the Tejano circuit, they have shared the stage with Little Joe, Texas Latino, and Emilio and Raulito Navaira.
