The Time of Remembrance was not only the highlight of the 7th Annual Family FunFair on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at the Nolan County Coliseum in Sweetwater, but capped off two days of events bringing awareness of child abuse in and around the area.
The family event was sponsored by the High Sky Children's Ranch and West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC), with the ceremony honoring children who have been victims of child abuse.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 32 calls for service, issued no citations and made two arrests on April 3, 2012.
The SPD received 21, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had nine calls for service, served two civil papers and made three arrests on April 3, 2012.

The Abilene Reporter-News has given Class 1A all-Big Country high school basketball recognition to four Nolan County athletes â€” Jesus Leanos and Lynnsi Moses of Roscoe and Sierra Allen and Kara Hughey of Highland.
Leanos, a sophomore, is the boys newcomer of the year in Class 1A, Division I. Moses, a 5-9 senior post, made the girls second team in Class 1A, Division I after averaging 16 points, two steals and over six rebounds per game.
High Sky Childrenâ€™s Ranch and the West Texas Childrenâ€™s Advocacy Center have once again partnered to host the Seventh Annual West Texas Child Abuse Awareness Family FunFair in Sweetwater. The FunFair will be held at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex on Wednesday, April 4, from 4-6:30 p.m. The Time of Remembrance will start at 6:05 p.m. and organizers ask that everybody stay for the ceremony honoring children who have been victims of child abuse.
The Sweetwater Police Department has recently handled a spike in sexual assaults of children -- committed by minors.
The local, collaborative efforts to bring awareness to child abuse was recognized during the 7th annual West Texas Children's Advocacy Center (WTCAC) banquet held on Tuesday evening, April 6, 2012 at the Nolan County Coliseum.
The theme for the evening was "Together We Can Help Children's Hearts Mend". which was highlighted through the evening's keynote speaker. Jennifer Morris, a business litigation attorney from Dallas, gave a stirring speech to the audience on her personal experience with child abuse and overcoming obstacles to achieve success.
Sweetwater Animal Control currently has eight dogs available for adoption.
Available for adoption is a male Shepherd mix, two male mixed breed dog, male terrier mix and four Shepherd mix puppies â€”Â two male and two female.
According to Sweetwaterâ€™s animal control officer, Don Kite, animals that are picked up are kept for a minimum of three days, but he tries to keep them from a week to 10 days.
Dogs and cats are available for adoption for a $15 fee and the cost of getting the pet vaccinated for rabies.
The pets are required to have their vaccination before they leave to their new homes.
