I remember reading a story long ago about a little girl who came home from school all excited saying, â€śMommy, today, we learned about Sleeping Beauty.â€ť The mom replied, â€śReally, I remember that story. They lived happily ever after.â€ťÂ â€śNo mommy, they got married!â€ť exclaimed the little girl.
The 2011-12 basketball season ends today for the Roscoe boys and the Sweetwater, Highland and Blackwell boys finish up Tuesday, leaving Highlandâ€™s girls as the countyâ€™s only playoff-bound team after ending their season with a win at Westbrook this past Friday.
But the Lady Hornets will get in another game this week when they face New Home in a playoff warmup. The game is in Hermleigh and tips off at 8 p.m. today.
Sweetwaterâ€™s boys are idle today before ending their 2011-12 season next Tuesday at Snyder.

After months of intense preparation for this seasonâ€™s FLL robotics competition challenge dubbed â€śFood Factor,â€ť the Bacteria Ninjas from Sweetwater Middle School took their plastic blocks and brains to the table to compete at the fourth annual North Texas FIRST LEGOÂ® League (FLL) Regional Championship Robotics Tournament on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2012. Coached by Shana Hrbacek, Bacteria Ninja members were Anna Espinoza, Christa Martin, Abby Garcia, Bella Pena and Abby Lynch. The Bacteria Ninjas were sponsored by Ludlum Measurements in Sweetwater.
ABILENE â€” The annual Texas Farm, Ranch, Wildlife Expo is set for Feb. 21-22 on the grounds of the Taylor County Expo Center, located at 1700 State Highway 36 in Abilene. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Feb. 21 and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 22.

Sweetwater lost to Brownwood in season-ending District 5-3A girls basketball action here Tuesday to finish 1-7 in district play and 15-18 overall. Sweetwaterâ€™s girls power-lifting team placed second overall and had two individual winners Saturday at a meet in Grape Creek.
Sweetwaterâ€™s individual winners were Loni Mendez in the 181-pound class and Joslyn Rosas in the 220-pound class. Mendez lifted a total of 760 pounds, while Rosas lifted 730 pounds.
Sweetwater High Schoolâ€™s girls and boys golf teams played in season-opening tournaments this past week-end at San Angelo and Sny-der, respectively.
The girls shot a two-day score of 845 for a sixth-place finish in San Angelo, while the boys placed fifth in Snyder after a two-day total of 690.
For the boys, Ryan Mercer shot 77-79-156 to finish in a tie for third place among medalists. Meanwhile, the team rebounded from an opening 370 on Friday to shoot 320 â€” the best one-day score of any team in the tournament â€” on Saturday.
