Camp indicates football season is near

There was competition at Mustang Bowl on Tuesday at the end of the first day of a three-day football camp led by Sweetwater’s coaching staff. It was a reminder that the real thing starts in a few weeks, as Sweetwater’s first scrimmage is here on Aug. 14. The first practices are scheduled to begin on Aug. 3.

Tomorrow, July 23, Story Hour at the County-City Library for parents and their children will be at 10:45 a.m.
Library staff will lead the parents and children in stories and songs. Call 235-4978 for more information or go to www.sweetwaterlibrary.org.
Also, the Mitchell County Senior Citizens Dance will be held from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Colorado City Civic Center, located at 157 West 2nd Street.
There will be live music featuring Mike Porter and Kevin Rainwater. There is an entry fee per person; contact Faye at 325-728-3033 for more information.

Locals to begin practices Aug. 3

Sweetwater High School athletes in volleyball and football start practices for the 2015 season on Aug. 3.
That will also be the day that football athletes in Roscoe, Blackwell and Highland begin practicing for their seasons as well.
Football athletes at the four Nolan County schools will have their first scrim-mages Aug. 14 or Aug. 15, followed by a final scrim-mage Aug. 20 or Aug. 21.
Sweetwater’s freshman, JV and varsity volleyball athletes have four practice days before their two scrim-mages on Aug. 7 and Aug. 8. The regular season will begin at San Angelo Grape Creek on Aug. 10.

Tomorrow, July 22, the Nolan County 4-H will host a sewing spectacular and fun with fabric day camp from 9 a.m. to noon at the Nolan County Courthouse (third floor meeting room). Registration will take place at 8:30 a.m.
Cost is free and the camp is for ages third grade through twelfth grade. For more information, contact Labeth Carter at 325-236-6912.
Also, come join some Super Hero Fun at 10 a.m. Magician Harlan Rhodes will be the guest at the County-City Library to conclude their summer reading program.

Tomorrow, July 21, a Mustang Football Camp will be held through July 23 at Mustang Bowl from 8-11 a.m. daily for students entering grades 3-9. A fee will be charged.
All campers will receive individual instruction from members of the Mustang coaching staff. The camp will place emphasis on skills and drills and will also have both punt, pass and kick instruction and competitions.
There will also be refreshments, T-shirts and certificates. Checks should be made payable to Sweetwater High School. Return forms to: Shane Mobley, Sweetwater High School, 1205 Ragland, Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
