The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at Villa Palma Italian Restaurant, located at 120 W. Broadway, on Thursday, Nov. 10. Owner Ardian Halili is shown cutting the red ribbon with Chamber Ambassadors and community members.
Also, Schlotzskyâ€™s in Sweetwater celebrated their 15 year anniversary and re-imaging with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and community members attended as well.
A Sweetwater man was shot in the face just before noon on Wednesday according to Sweetwater Chief of Police Jim Kelley. The Sweetwater Police Department was dispatched to 102 Fisher Street around 11:02 a.m. on Wednesday about the shooting.
Kelley stated that officers are still investigating details of the crime, but one man has already been arrested in the case. Danny Johnson was arrested Wednesday, as he allegedly shot at the 21-year-old male victim with a shotgun.
Sweetwater and Abilene, TX: Cox Jewelers, the jeweler of choice for many families in Sweetwater and Abilene since 1895, will soon join a pantheon of important local businesses that are no more. But first, Cox Jewelers must sell its entire inventory of fine diamonds, jewelry, watches and giftware. The Cox Jewelers Going Out of Business Sale starts Thursday, Nov. 17, at Cox Jewelers locations, 110 East Broadway in Sweetwater, and 1056 North 2nd Street in Abilene.
An elderly couple cashed in big with their collection at the Treasure Hunters Roadshow at the Hampton Inn & Suites in Sweetwater. The couple brought in a World War II dagger, a number of coins and a few pieces of jewelry. They walked out with about $3,000.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 52 calls for service, issued one citation and made one arrest on Nov. 15, 2011.
The SPD received 24, 911 calls.

GORDONVILLE â€” A memorial service for Mary Alyne Burrow will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at the Dixie Frontier Baptist Church in Whitesboro with Rev. Carl Douglas officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Meador Funeral Home of Whitesboro.
Mrs. Burrow passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 15, 2011, at her home in Gordonville.
Sweetwater High School has a pair of girls basket-ball teams who are off to 3-0 starts this season. The JV girls are also 3-0 after Tuesdayâ€™s 32-17 victory at Breckenridge.
Larissa Locklar paced the Lady Mustangs with 11 points. Also scoring were Shaneese Brown and Syd-ney Vanderbilt with six, Mikki Reschman with three, Maddie Jones and Taylor McPherson with two and Elise Lawrence and Karlee Murff with one point.
Sweetwater led 11-4, 17-6 and 27-10 at the quarter breaks. Sweetwaterâ€™s varsity and JV girls will play at Abilene High on Friday.
Highland JV girls win
Sweetwaterâ€™s Junior PeeWee football team will play for the Super Bowl title at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Wylieâ€™s Bulldog Stadium against the Wylie White team. Sweetwater reached the championship game by beating the Abilene Bucs 37-0 in the quarterfinals, and then the Abilene Redskins 19-13 in the semifinals. The public is urged to come show its support. According to emergency authorities, a man walked out of his house on 102 Fisher Street on Wednesday morning, November 16, 2011 when he was apparently shot with what authorities believe was a shotgun. The shot came from a distance. The man is in stable condition and is being transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
November is American Diabetes Month, and to acknowledge this Alice Velez from the Diabetic Outreach Program at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital will be at the health department on Thursday, November 17, from 8 a.m. until noon to check blood glucose and answer any questions you may have regarding diabetes.
