The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued five citations and made one arrest on July 5, 2011.
The SPD received 25, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 11 calls for service, served three civil papers and made no arrests on July 5, 2011.

Only a handful of teams are good enough to make it to the sectional round of Little League all-star play each summer.
But not only does Sweet-water have a pair of teams going to sectionals, most of the players on those teams have been there before.
Later this week, an important decision will be made about who will care for a 4-year-old boy found along the side of Interstate 20.
Angel Flores was found in Sweetwater covered in cactus spines. He was then taken to a Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital where he has been recovering.
Police say his father, Carlos Rico, choked him and left him to die on the side of the road.
Rico says a divine power told him to kill his son. He's behind bars on $500,000 bond, charged with attempted capital murder.
Community connections extend beyond a townâ€™s physical limits. Those connections extend the hand of friendship and care during times of hardship.
The First Salem Lutheran Church in Roscoe collected funds during the Easter holidays to help those in Colorado City who lost their homes during the February wildfire.
â€śThese are very caring, very good, generous folks who are always looking for a way to give and share,â€ť Howell Martin, pastor said.
Martin, who is a coach and sixth grade science teacher at Colorado Middles School, was well acquainted with the fire situation in Colorado City.

Three people pled guilty to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Tuesday.
Kenneth Gene Wiley pled guilty to theft over $100,000 but less than $200,000, a second degree felony. For his plea, Wiley received 10 years confinement in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, probated for 10 years. He will have to pay a $2,000 fine, $309 in court costs and $193,354.29 in restitution to GE Energy. He will also have to serve 240 hours of community service.

A memorial service for Wesley M. Huffstutler, 71, of Sweetwater, will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011, at Faith Harvest Pentecostal Church. Interment will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Huffstutler died Wednesday, July 6, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
ROTAN - Alene (Mitchell) Donham, 91, died Sunday July 3, 2011, at Fisher County Hospital.Â Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday July 7, 2011, at the Church of Christ in Rotan. Burial will follow at Roby Cemetery under the direction of Weathersbee-Ray Funeral Home.
Mary Louise Welch declared her independence from old age and frail health, passing away peacefully on Monday morning, July 4, 2011, at the age of 89 years. Louise was born in Gorman, Texas on Sept. 27, 1921 and grew up in Maryneal and Sweetwater, Texas. Louise married Charles Stamps in 1946. They had one child, Jennifer, born in 1949. In 1951, Louise married Jack Welch and they had one child, Sam Jackson Welch, who was born in 1954. Louise worked hard her entire life and eventually retired in 1996 at the age of 75.
