Local pastor to travel to Mexico

March 26, 2011

Dale Stowe, pastor of the Word of God church in Sweetwater, is about to embark on a mission trip to Reynosa, Mexico.
Pastor Stowe shares about his trip for many reasons. He wants to bring attention to answering God's call and so that he also might be lifted up in prayer for the duration of the trip.
The journey began through Larry Goff, a forty-year missionary who has traveled the world and specializes in ministering in South America. In this particular mission effort, Goff has been near the Texas, Mexico and Arizona borders to reach people who are in need of help.

Sweetwater Music Festival continues

The Sweetwater Music Festival continued on Thursday evening with Laney Wallace, 2011 Miss Snake Charmer singing the National Anthem at the semi-annual meeting of the West Texas-New Mexico leadership alliance networking event at the National WASP World War II Museum and the Sweetwater Municipal Band providing the entertainment (shown).

Sweetwater played host for the sixth year to international trade officials and regional leaders from West Texas and New Mexico on Thursday evening at the semi-annual meeting of the West Texas-New Mexico leadership alliance networking event at the National WASP World War II Museum. Leaders discussed everything from education and energy to agriculture and community strategies. More than 150 people attended the event from Texas, New Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom. Protect your drinking water

What can you do to protect the water you drink?
Janie Harris, the Extension Housing and Environmental Specialist with the Texas A&M University System, composed an article in 2004 entitled "Your Actions Can Help Protect Our Drinking Water". In November 2010, the three-page report was revised to include more vital information.

Charles (CP) Davis

March 26, 2011

Charles (CP) Davis was born on October 11, 1929 in Normangee, TX and entered Heaven’s gates on March 24, 2011.
CP grew up in Sweetwater, TX and graduated from Newman High School in 1947. After graduation he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. He was drafted and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. In 1961, CP moved to Oklahoma City where he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration until his retirement on October 12, 1989. He loved camping, fishing, bowling, roller skating and was an avid bird watcher. 

Lou Edna Blair

Lou Edna Blair, age 89, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital. 
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 28, 2011, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. James Baker officiating, assisted by Rev. Chris Stephens. Burial will follow at Garden of Memories. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home. 
Lou Edna Blair was born April 17, 1921 in Nolan County, Texas to Samuel Christopher and Mary Belt (Stout) Cox. She married James Milam Blair in Sweetwater, Texas. 

Ruth Barton

March 26, 2011

Ruth Barton passed away on March 25, 2011, in Sweetwater, Texas surrounded by her children. She was 86. She was born on January 27, 1925 in Bingham Canyon, Utah. She met her husband of almost 65 years, Adrian Barton, in Salt Lake City during World War II. They married one month after they met just before he shipped out to the South Pacific. After the war they made their home in Sweetwater. Adrian passed away on September 17, 2009.

Masons dinner to benefit WTCAC

Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 will have its third dinner benefitting the West Texas Children's Advocacy Center from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at the Nolan County Coliseum Annex.
Last year, the Masons were able to raise about $6,000 for the WTCAC. Some of the money comes from the dinner, but most comes from the silent auction that is held before and during the dinner. Those wanting to bid in the silent auction will find a wide variety of items to choose from. "There is something for everybody," said Mason Jim McKenzie.
