Billy Joe â€śBillâ€ť Tucker, 81, of Sweetwater, passed away on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in Sweetwater. He will be cremated under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home and no further services are planned at this time.
Billy was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Sweetwater. He married Rosemary Jones on May 12, 1972, in Sweetwater. He was a Baptist. Billy owned and operated Big State Roustabout for several years. He was a member of Sweetwater Masonic Lodge #571 and was a 32nd Degree Mason. He was a member of Suez Shrine Temple in San Angelo.
These Sweetwater High School athletes will compete Friday and Saturday in the Region I-3A track meet being held at Texas Tech University. Several Nolan County high school runners will be competing at regional track meets on Friday.
Shown is retiring Sweetwater Chief of Police Jim Kelley with his wife, Scharles Kelley, accepting plaques at a retirement party hosted by the Sweetwater Police Patrol Association. Plaques were also made for the coupleâ€™s two sons, Paxton and Tanner.
Many members of the community and many agencies who work closely with the Sweetwater Police Department were in attendance at the reception held at Fourth and Elm Church of Christ.
The Nolan County Commissionerâ€™s Court met on Monday morning, April 23, and Item #5 on their agenda was to consider approval of the architectsâ€™ plans for the new Sheriffâ€™s Offices and Jail.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had 15 calls for service, served three civil papers and made six arrests on April 23, 2012.

Private family memorial services will be held at a later date for John Everett Walton, Jr., 72, of Sweetwater. He died on Tuesday, April 24, 2012, at his residence.
Services will be directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater. Mr. Waltonâ€™s body will be cremated.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 26, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at McCoy Funeral Home of Sweetwater.
He was born in Fisher County on July 8, 1939 and married Wanda Kay Jones on Sept. 19, 1961 in Grapevine. He was a lifelong Sweetwater resident and a member of the Sweetwater Elks Club. He also loved ranching and cooking.
Hilda Pauline Humphreys, 84, formerly of Abilene, passed away Friday, April 20, 2012, at a nursing facility in Sweetwater, Texas.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012, in Abilene City Cemetery (Cedar Hill section), with Frankie Santiago officiating, directed by Elliott-Hamil Funeral Home, 542 Hickory, Abilene. The family will receive friends at a visitation 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the funeral home.
SWEETWATER â€” James (Stubby) Smith, Jr., passed away April 13, 2012.Â He was born Oct. 20, 1941, to James Eldon Smith and Elsie Vida Gober in Brownwood, TX.Â The light of his life was his daughter, Amanda Leigh Knight, who preceded him in death in 2008, along with his parents; and brother, Jerry Don Smith.Â
