The Sweetwater Campus of Texas State Technical College West Texas will host a College Preview and Open House on Saturday, April 14. The event, held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., is open to the public. TSTC West Texas advisors will lead prospective students on a campus tour where they will meet the college's top-notch faculty and have the opportunity to check out first-hand the brand-new automotive alternative fuel trainers current students are using, as well as the wind turbine drive train the Wind Technology students train on.

During the SEED (Sweetwater Enterprise for Economic Development) board meeting on Monday morning, April 9, 2012 at First Financial Bank, the board approved a contract to work with Cape and Son for an economic development opportunity.
Ken Becker, the executive director of SEED, noted that the existing business has been looking toward expansion for the past four years. Representatives with the company, Geoff Haney and Austin Rose, were at the meeting to present their proposal to the board.
City Manager Eddie Brown has chosen Sweetwater's new police chief. Chosen from the top five applicants was Brian Frieda, who is currently the police chief at Muleshoe Police Department in Muleshoe, TX.
The Sweetwater City Commission will meet at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, in the City Commission Room at City Hall to confirm Brown's appointment of Frieda as police chief effective May 1, 2012.
"He will be wrapping up some things in Muleshoe, so he will probably actually start at the Sweetwater Police Department on Wednesday, May 3," said Brown.
Two vehicles were towed away by Pickrell Wrecker Service off of Business 20 on Friday morning, April 13, 2012, after they wrecked just off of Interstate 20, near mile marker 240 on the west interchange. Two people were involved in the wreck and according to Assistant Fire Chief Russell Reeves, one transport was made to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital from the wreck. The patient was in stable condition.
Freddie the Fire Truck came to Sweetwater Fire Department right at 20 years ago. He has served a long life of educating and entertaining local children.
Freddie the Fire Truck has had some rough times in the recent past, with Freddie getting to be the age his is, and unfortunately, he is unable to continue his work with the local school fire prevention and safety programs due to his advanced age and the wear and tear of Freddie's components.
A progress report on the Sweetwater Police Chief hiring process was given by City Manager Eddie Brown during the City Commission meeting on Tuesday morning, April 10, 2012 at City Hall.
Brown noted that interviews took place, beginning with 31 applicants. The top 10 applicants were then sent to the Texas Police Chief Association, who was asked to assist by scoring and rating the applications received.
At 3:38 a.m. on Thursday, April 12, 2012, a man attempted to break into the Wes-T-Go convenience store, located at 209 Lamar Street in Sweetwater.
The third round of Texas Alumni Football for the area will be here in April, but this time, it will make dreams come true for many Roscoe alumni.
Former high school players from Roscoe have gathered to form a team and live out this dream. The dream? Playing a game of football at Cowboys Stadium.
The games are open to all alumni of the Roscoe Plowboys and the ages of the players will likely range from nineteen to mid-forties. The alumni team will play another alumni team from Commerce, a 3A school, northeast of Dallas.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 44 calls for service, issued 10 citations and made one arrest on April 10, 2012.
