Trinity Baptist Church here in Sweetwater observed Clergy Appreciation Month on October 30, with gifts for Bro. Ward Hayes (pastor), Bro. Kyle Tubbs (Youth Minister) and Gretchen Jones (Education Minister). A video was made by the members of the church for Bro. Ward. Among the questions answered were, âWhat comes to mind when you think of Bro. Ward?" "What do you appreciate the most about Bro. Ward?" and âHow does the church feel about Bro. Ward?â Gifts were presented following the video.
Trinity is located at the corner of Hailey and Santa Fe Streets.
Nolan County USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) Executive Director, Dennis Cumbie urges producers who want to purchase coverage through the Noninsurable Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) to do so before the sales closing date of Dec. 1, 2011.
NAP provides financial assistance to producers of noninsurable crops when low yields/grazing loss, loss of inventory or prevented planting occur due to normal disasters.
The following crops have a NAP application closing date of Dec. 1, 2011: grazing and forage/hay on native and improved grass, honey, potatoes, radishes, grapes and caneberries.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 37 calls for service, issued three citations and made three arrests on Nov. 16, 2011.
The SPD received 19, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriffâs Office (NCSO) had 10 calls for service, served three civil papers and made two arrests from Nov. 15-16, 2011.

A memorial service for Mary Elizabeth Gamble, 63, of Sweetwater, will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov.22, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Donald Hunt officiating.
Gamble died Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
She was born Jan. 1, 1948, in Waynesboro, PA. She married Brett Gamble on June 6, 1989, in Hagerstown, Maryland. Mary moved to Sweetwater from Lubbock in 1991. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. She was in retail sales and had been manager of the Skinnyâs Store on Lamar Street from 1992 until 2009.
Ray Davison, age 78, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2011, at Hendrick Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 20, 2011, at Broadway Baptist Church with Rev. Chris Stephens and Rev. James Baker officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Merkel, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Viola Marie Stokes was born April 15, 1934, in Bledsoe, Texas to Clayton Hilliard and Fannie Lue Ruland Stokes. She spent her early childhood in and around Bledsoe, where she attended school and was a forward on the girlâs basketball team.

SATURDAY, NOV. 19
After a tough one-point loss on Tuesday at Hawley in their season opener, the Sweetwater boys basketball team hopes to rebound sharply against Coleman in the Mustangsâ home opener at 6:30 p.m. today.
The contest is the first of four straight at home for Sweetwater. The Mustangs will host Colorado City on Monday and Andrews on Tuesday before entertaining Wall on Nov. 29. Both the freshman and JV boys play at 5 p.m. today prior to the varsity game.
The Sweetwater White Flag football team will play in their Super Bowl game at noon Sunday. The game will be at Wylieâs Bulldog Stadium. The team beat Abileneâs Bucs 25-6 last week to advance as Jadyn Forbes scored four touchdowns and Tyler Chavez kicked an extra point. Cash Barnes, John Rine, Angel Delapaz, Ivan McCann, Jayden Perez and Logan Thompson led the defense and Derek Arenivaz, Roman Camacho and Kyler Holsey also turned in outstanding performances.
The Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at Villa Palma Italian Restaurant, located at 120 W. Broadway, on Thursday, Nov. 10. Owner Ardian Halili is shown cutting the red ribbon with Chamber Ambassadors and community members.
Also, Schlotzskyâs in Sweetwater celebrated their 15 year anniversary and re-imaging with a ribbon cutting on Tuesday, Nov. 15. Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and community members attended as well.
