The Woman's Forum of Sweetwater presented a check to the Pioneer Museum on Tuesday, Sept. 13. The proceeds came from the Forum's summer tour of Home and Outdoor Living Area Tour. The Leadership Sweetwater class of 2012 started their nine month course Tuesday morning at Texas State Technical College in Sweetwater. The program is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce and is a hands-on, interactive experience that allows members to have fun and bond while they learn. The members of the 2012 class will be learning how Sweetwater works by getting "locked up" in jail, sitting in on court sessions and touring the fire station and water treatment facility. They will also be introduced at the City Commission meeting in October.
Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital today was named one of the top performers on key quality measures by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in America. Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital was recognized by The Joint Commission based on data reported about evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for certain conditions, including heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and childrenâ€™s asthma.
The Nolan County Commissioners met for their regular meeting on Monday morning, Sept. 12, 2011 at the Nolan County Courthouse.
Two public hearings took place during the meeting: for the proposed property tax rate for 2011-12 and the records management fund for the County Clerk's office. No input, however, was offered for either forum.
David Keith Geron, age 58, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 14, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.Â
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home ChapelÂ with Rev. Wayne Brown officiating.Â Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery.Â Â Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 16, 2011 from 6-8 p.m.
The Sweetwater Police Department (SPD) received 56 calls for service, issued eight citations and made no arrests on Sept. 12, 2011.
The SPD received eight, 911 calls.

The Nolan County Sheriff's Office (NCSO) had three calls for service, served no civil papers and made four arrests on Sept. 12, 2011.

Tenaska recently gave a $2,500 donation to the BEST robotics program. The program kicked off at Texas State Technical College on Saturday. Participants were introduced to the game where rules were reviewed and a demonstration was provided before entry kits were distributed to each school. Area schools involved include Sweetwater, Roscoe and Highland.
The Snyder police officer and former Sweetwater police officer recovering from a gunshot wound to the head is making steady progress.
Corporal Darryl Campbell is still in a Lubbock rehab center. Friends and family say his recovery has been miraculous. Snyder Police Chief Terry Luecke says members of the police force visit him often and it lifts everyone's spirits to see him doing better.
Campbell was able to make an appearance at an August concert held in his honor. He has been slowly regaining speech and motor skills.
September is National Cholesterol Education Month and to acknowledge this occasion Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital Lab will be at the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD), located at 301 E. 12th, on Thursday, Sept. 15 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. to offer free cholesterol screening.
