Medication cleanout planned for March 19

If your medicine cabinet hasn't been cleaned out in awhile (or ever), a chance to do so is coming up.
On Saturday, March 19, a Medication Cleanout will be held at the Sweetwater High School. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will be done as a drive through.
Medication Cleanout was originated through the Safe Schools/Healthy Students Program with the Amarillo Independent School District and the Texas Panhandle Poison Center with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center.

Set clocks forward for daylight saving time

Rattlesnake Round-up weekend is full of fun and excitement, which can leave residents a little worn out. The Monday after it may seem a little harder to wake up, but to make matters worse, this weekend is the beginning of daylight saving time.
Saturday night when you lay down, after this long weekend, make sure to set your clocks one hour forward.

Doyle Alfred Davis

Doyle Alfred Davis, 76, of Denton, passed away on Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Denton Regional Medical Center. He was born on Se. 10, 1934, in Black Land, TX to Dayton Alfred and Clara Lee (Lewellen) Davis. He was married to Judith Reynolds on July 20, 1979, in Temple, TX. He served in the U S Army and was retired from the Santa Fe Railroad and the construction business. He is a member of the First Baptist Church of Denton.

JV girls golfers 3rd at Abilene

Sweetwater High School’s junior varsity girls golf team shot a one-day 394 total to finish third overall and second among JV teams at a 10-team tournament played March 8 in Abilene.
Sweetwater’s 394 was just one shot higher than Abil-ene Cooper JV’s 393. Also, Sweetwater’s No. 2 JV team placed fifth with a 411 total.
Sophomore Amy Witt, a member of the No. 2 team, shot a 92 to place second among all JV players.

SHS girls 6th at preview

Sweetwater High School’s varsity girls golf team shot a two-day total of 764 for a sixth-place finish out of 14 teams at the Class 3A, Region I Preview tournament that was held March 4-5 in Lubbock.
Sweetwater shot daily scores of 386 and 378 at Meadowbrook Golf Course and was led by Elise Law-rence, who shot 91-94-185. Jodie May shot 99-92-191, Sarah Witt shot 97-96-193, Alex Gomez shot 100-96-196 and Katie High shot 99-103-202. The team plays its final pre-district event at Lamesa on March 24.

SHS tennis 5th in region

After suffering a tough 10-9 loss against Pecos on the first day of action, Sweetwater High School came back to earn a fifth-place finish at the TTCA regional team tennis tournament. SHS dominated Midland Greenwood 10-1 before defeating Levelland 13-6 to win fifth place.

JV boys place 5th

Sweetwater’s JV boys golf team shot 391 for a fifth-place finish at a tournament held Feb. 23 in Lamesa. Guy Bond led the way with an 85 to place eighth among medalists. Rance Stone (100), Yates Cypert (102), Michael Hazard (104) and Jonah Law-rence (111) also played for Sweetwater at the tournament.
