Funeral services for Nita Laverne Rogers, 80, of Nolan, will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Truman Davis and Rev. Billy Oliver officiating. Interment will follow at Maryneal Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Rogers died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.
Rufus T. Palacios, Sr., age 78, of Sweetwater, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011, at his residence.
A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church recited by family.
Holy Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. l8, 2011, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church with Rev. Michael Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Carvin Coy Lemmons - Williams, 43, of Sweetwater, Texas passed away on Saturday, Jan. 15, 2011 at his residence.
He was born in Sweetwater on Sept. 1, 1967.
Reynaldo (Ray) Balderas, age 71 of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away Saturday, January 15, 2011 at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.
His body was cremated. A graveside service will be held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Sweetwater Cemetery with Rev. Michael Rodriguez officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.
Roscoeâ€™s varsity basketball teams swept a double-header at Rotan in picking up their first district wins on Friday.

Roscoe (9-8 overall) is now 1-1 in District 9-A after holding leads of 20-6, 33-17 and 39-18 at the breaks. Caden Smith led Roscoe with 18 points while Cody Graham had 17, Devan Cole eight and Keeston Ford and Jesus Leanos six.

Fridayâ€™s freshman girls game between Sweetwater and Wylie required an extra period, and wasnâ€™t settled until the hosts rallied in the final minute to pull out a 34-33 win at Wylieâ€™s gym.
It was just the fourth loss this season for Sweetwater (1-1 district), which trailed 25-21 after three periods but outscored Wylie 6-2 to force overtime. Kayla Chowning had 10 points for Sweetwater while Shaneese Brown and Taylor McPherson each had seven, Karlee Murff three and Larissa Locklar, Mac-aela Reschman and Sydney Vanderbilt two.
ABILENE â€” On Friday, the Sweetwater girls basketball team jumped out to a 4-0 lead against Wylie in the first 2:47 of the contest and the host team failed to connect on a field goal until almost halfway through the opening period. But after that slow start, Wylie soon found its shooting touch in a big way and won, 63-32, to maintain a perfect 3-0 record in district play while Sweetwater (0-2, 15-12) is still looking for its first win.

In a hard-fought district opener that was tied at the end of both the first and third quarters, the Sweetwater freshman boys outscored Wylie 9-6 in the final eight minutes Friday to pull out a 38-35 victory at Wylieâ€™s gym.
Kaleb Hooverâ€™s 20 points paced Sweetwater, which has lost just once in 15 games this season.
The teams were tied at 10 at the end of the opening period and Wylie led 20-19 at halftime. It was 29-29 going into the fourth and final stanza. Tre Taylor scored eight points and Dylan Bennett and Quentin Wetsel each had four, while Marquees Jenkins had two.
