Five students from Highland High School were inducted into membership of the National Honor Society in a traditional candle light ceremony held on May 12.
Members were selected by a Faculty Council for meeting the high standards of scholarship, service, leadership and character.
Students inducted were Josh Andrews, Haley Hill, Kara Hughey, Jessica McCain and Nabil Sutjipto.
Funeral services for Ivy Mae Haywood Hurst, 79, of Abilene and formerly of Sweetwater, will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Jerry Payne officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.

Six people entered pleas to Judge Glen Harrison during 32nd Judicial District Court proceedings on Monday.
The WASP Museumâ€™s personal grilling crew, Fifiâ€™s-Flyer French-Fryers, will be serving cheeseburgers and home-made french fries from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, at the WASP Museum, which is located at Avenger Field, west of Sweetwater. The grilling crew will be on the west side of Hangar One and the public is invited to enjoy old-fashioned cheeseburgers with regular fries or the specialty sweet-potato fries. â€śWe started preparing sweet potatoes last year at some of our tailgate parties and they went twice as fast as the regular fries,â€ť explains Jo Henderson, one of the grill crew.
A 40-year-old Blackwell man was found alive after surviving nearly six days without food or water following his disappearance from his familyâ€™s ranch home located nearly six miles north-northwest of Blackwell, Texas. Doyle Lee Parsons was last seen around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 14.

Joseph Aaron Rayburn, age 84 of Rowlett, TX, passed away May 23, 2011.Â He was born April 17, 1927 in Roscoe, TX, to Henry Franklin Rayburn and Claudia Mae (Helms) Rayburn.Â Joseph proudly served his country in the United States Army Aircorps during WWII.Â He worked in logistics in the textile industry.Â Joseph was a member of the VFW, the American Legion Post 0227 in Roscoe, TX and First Baptist Church of Rowlett, TX.
Millard L. Brown, age 84, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at his residence.Â
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wayne Kirk, Rev. Ronnie Horton and Rev. Mike Sells officiating.Â Entombment will follow at Slater's Chapel Cemetery with the Fort Hood U.S. Army Honor Guard.Â Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.Â
One person was killed in a motorcycle crash on Saturday afternoon at 6:33 p.m. in Nolan County. The crash was on Interstate 20 mile marker 237 in the westbound lane.
Deceased was Gerome Cloyd Black, 79 years of age from Andrews, Texas. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 p.m. by Nolan County Judge Tim Fambrough. The body was taken to McCoy Funeral Home in Sweetwater.
