Many braved the cold weather on Wednesday to make it to the Sweetwater Chamber of Commerce coffee event hosted by Ludlum Measurements. Tours of the building were given to those in attendance.

Howlett welcomed to wind industry in Sweetwater

Availon Inc., a wind turbine service provider, has announced the appointment of Nancy Howlett as the sales account manager for Sweetwater, Texas. In this role she will be responsible for Availon’s sales efforts in the West Texas region.

SNCHD encourages residents to get vaccinated against the flu

There have been a number of cases of flu in the area, therefore, the Sweetwater-Nolan County Health Department (SNCHD) encourages residents to get vaccinated this flu season. Getting vaccinated is the best way to stop the spread of flu. "It's important to get vaccinated now to help keep yourself and your family healthy," stated Linda Kite, SNCHD public promotions coordinator.

Funeral services for Betty Lou Rowan, 71, of Sweetwater, will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Trinity Baptist Church with Rev. Ward Hayes officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, at McCoy Funeral Home.
Rowan died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital in Sweetwater.

Rosa Martinez, age 85, of Sweetwater, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, in Sweetwater.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, at Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Sweetwater Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Cate-Spencer & Trent Funeral Home.

SISD schools closed Thursday

Due to the continuing cold weather and icy roads, all Sweetwater Independent School District campuses will be closed for the third day on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2011.

Sweetwater Reporter rural routes may see a delay in their paper delivery due to dangerous road conditions this week. Please be patient with this delay. You will receive all missed papers once the roads become safe.

ERCOT continues in EEA LEVEL 3

ERCOT continues in EEA LEVEL 3. All load has been restored to areas that were affected by the rolling scheduled outages. ERCOT is still at 3000 Mw's on short supply but generation is still being restored to the system.
Oncor continues to work outages in the service area from other causes. Anyone that is still without power should contact the outage reporting number at 888-313-4747.

Meeting held to discuss Round-Up plans

In less than eight weeks, the Sweetwater Jaycees World’s Largest Rattlesnake Round-Up will be back in full force. The biggest event that West Texas and the world knows doesn’t come together without preparation. A meeting about the Rattlesnake Round-Up took place to discuss parking, tours and other aspects that need to be addressed.

Wear Red Day events planned

On Friday, Feb. 4, wearing red won't just be for showing off that Mustang pride.
Judge Tim Fambrough has issued a proclamation for Feb. 4, to be declared as National Wear Red Day® in Nolan County, in an effort to promote women's health and increase awareness of heart disease in women.
According to the proclamation, heart disease is the number one killer of women. One in four American women dies of heart disease, due in part that many women are unaware of the problem, leading to a lack of concern.
