Who holds the key to happiness

April 17, 2012

The other day I listened to a well known liberal talk about how a particular piece of legislation was needed because it would "make things better". I found the fact that anybody could still be trying to convince people the way to a better life is through government intervention to be pretty interesting.

Courage

April 13, 2012

7:26 a.m. My daughter Angel Leigh Vaughn was handed to me eyes shut closed from nine months of darkness trapped in her mother's womb like a caterpillar waiting to break free from its shell so it can transform into God's great intention, my butterfly. Her body covered in the afterbirth that was used to protect and shelter her from harm while in her mother's womb. Suddenly, her cries begin to drown out every sound in the room, and as I held her, I began to feel something tingling up my spine and releasing a certain euphoria that only new life could produce.

Hiring of new Police Chief

What are your thoughts on the hiring of a new police chief?

Justice is Blind for a Reason

April 10, 2012

One of the (many) problems that we have with the entity the U.S government has become is that it has developed "good eyesight".

Spring Traditions

April 10, 2012

The last several weeks, stores across the nation have been hazardous to chocoholics and persons attempting to whittle off those last few pounds before summer. The “seasonal” and “candy” aisles have been brimming with Easter specialties in the shapes of eggs, rabbits and chickens. As with many of our traditions, the use of such to celebrate Easter is shrouded in myth, legend and time.

Didn’t we fight a war over this?

April 4, 2012

It is a sure sign that the economic downturn has settled in Texas when my phone begins to ring with complaints about collection agencies and strong arm tactics. These agencies are often the last resort before a debt is written off; as a result, courtesy and compassion are not their hallmarks.

Dairy Queen Sunday

April 3, 2012

Everyone knew everyone! This was 1973, Sunday after church in Sweetwater, Texas at the new Dairy Queen. A small town and friendly...this was America at its best until "they" arrived.
We were there in our Sunday best with the kids, all fresh and refreshed from our Sunday school and church activities. We knew almost everyone in the building and enjoyed the waving and interactions with them. A beautiful day until "they" arrived.

Just do it

March 30, 2012

I recently wore a Nike “Just Do It” T-shirt. When my seven-year-old daughter took time to read what the shirt said, she asked, “Just do what?”
“Good question,” I responded.
It was a good question on many levels because we shouldn’t be “just doing” anything and everything. What we’re “just doing” should have at least some purpose. However, the words “just do it” have a special meaning for me now.

The High Cost of “Victory”

March 28, 2012

Boy, we sure have the left and their progressive federal kingdom on the ropes now. They are still reeling from the stunning defeat we handed them over making Catholic institutions pay for their employee’s contraception. In fact, the liberals got the message so clearly that they are now licking their wounds and only instituting a few minor changes in our society here and there.

Spring Fever

March 27, 2012

As the weather warms up, and the hours of daylight increase, a new specie of wild life starts to appear in the rural areas of the county. Going about on two legs, except when being carried in by a vehicle with tires and a motor, these beings are amazing to watch. Secure that no one will ever find them (in the same part of a pasture that their parents and grandparents frequented), they consume alcoholic beverages, smoke, scuffle, and engage in the other tom foolery that has been known to identify young people in the spring since time immemorial.
